There are always compromises when looking for something that isnt the brand leaded in a prticular are .. and Tripods come no finer than Manfrotto in my opinion, but if you cant quite stretch to one, then you want the next best .. and the Slik Able 300DX is a worthy find.Main features you should look for from a tripod are stability, lightweight ( hard to get both ) and reach .. and the 300DX covers all three .. just.Add in a other features that are found on much more expensive tripods and you have a great tripod in this price range (sub £80)The 300DX has reversable main column, handy for low level and macro .. quick release plate for easy fitting and removal .. rubber feet .. 3x way head .. lay flat legsMy only negative with the tripod not being the lightest available ( remember the money aspect !) is there is no bag with it or no ring / fixing point for a sling / strap.Robust, not a bad weight, feature packed & all at a good price .. a great 1st tripod.

Really great tripod for the money. Why pay a fortune for a Manfrotto tripod when you can get this for a great price. Nice and stable even fully extended. A little weighty but more importantly stable.The head can be turned upside down for macro or copying and can also be shortened if required.When you have removed the column from the legs just look for a line halfway down the column hold both sides and twist it unscrews(this was not on my infomation sheet from Slik)For the average photographer this is a exceptional tripod.Only downside is no foam on the legs(thinking of the cold weather)and you will need a 1/4" to 3/8" adaptor for the screw on top of the centre column to take the better quality heads with a 3/8" fitting( Which I think should come with the heads ).All in all can't really be faulted 5 stars from me

This is a really good tripod for the money. I was looking at the manfrotto legs and read a lot of reviews for other tripods none seemed to mention this one. I was put off slik because I bought a poor quality one. Then I saw someone using one and thought thats a really good tripod. Nice and stable even fully extended. reasonable weight but more importantly stable. did i mention its stable? well it is.Only a few thing the more expensive manfrottos had which would have been nice was a hook at the bottom to make them even more stable, clip close legs and a strap mount but at nearly twice the price I'm happy.
