Melissa & Doug have done it again!I have two boys (2.5 and 3.5 yrs old). Their birthdays are just a couple months away, and we decided to get them a train table with the full M&D track. BUT, I wanted to ease them into it -- as they've never really played with trains before.I saw this take-along version and thought it'd be a perfect lead in.The plan is for it to be open and set-up under the tree on Xmas morning, so I can't yet tell you how the kids react. But I just played with it for a good 20 minutes.. if that tells you anything.Here are my pros and cons right out of the box.Pros:1) VERY solid construction. What I've come to expect from M&D. Wood is thick and sturdy. Clasps and hinges feel strong and durable.2) Nice finish/paint job on the track itself. A few minor imperfections, but overall, consistent and well done.3) Buildings/decor painted on both sides. Some sets I've seen have only one side painted. This looks good from all angles.4) Even without any decor/buildings, it is fun to use the track. My youngest is on the spectrum and not always the most gentle or purposeful with toys. I like that I can teach him how to push the cars before messing with the decor -- but can add those pieces easily for his older brother.Cons:1) 2 cars travel great together, but you'll get an occasional derailment on turns with 3 cars travelling as a unit. Not a huge issue at all, but worth noting.2) While the sliding gondola is a cute touch as a moveable element, within a day I imagine it would cause paint to wear off the 'mountaintop.' I doubt I'll give it to my kids -- at least not any time soon.3) I really wish the inside had compartments for the pieces. There's so much space that all the pieces will just be banging/jangling around in there -- should you actually use this for travel.I will probably wrap pieces in a small dish towel when storing them to negate this.

The media could not be loaded. Quality constructed, wooden toy set that assembles easily. The board folds open and acts as a storage case. The case has a metal folding clasp keeping the board tightly shut.The magnet strength holds the cars together well, and can be pulled along the track without disconnecting. The 18-piece set comes with a colorful variety which can be placed in a variety of places on the board.The interior of the board has a few ideas of how to play adding to the learning environment. Melissa and Doug make quality, well constructed toys and you can confidently add this one to the list.

My grandson was delighted with this foldable train set from Melissa and Doug. When purchasing toys as gifts, it is hard to know what will appeal and will keep their interest. This is well made and I would recommend it your child likes vehicles and trains. That it stores as a self contained unit is pretty great too.

This train set was easy to assemble and is great quality a fun toy that fits together perfectly to make it easy to store. It is definitely worth the price. My granddaughter loves it!

I love how easy this is to store and then just take out to set up when grandson comes. He loves pushing the train around the track, but is only 2 1/2 yrs old, so I don't set up most of the "props" with it yet. Plenty of time to grow in to it. He caught on pretty quickly how to position the train sections so the magnets connect.

This train set is exactly as described and very cute. I only wish it locked open in case you don't have a completely flat surface to put it on. If it's on a couch etc. the middle can buckle and then you can't fully use it. I would definitely agree it is for ages 3+ because my 2.8 year old can't really keep the trains on the tracks (the tracks are pretty shallow and if you move the trains with any speed or aren't very careful they jump right out) Also the car is a little confusing to him because it doesn't have a magnet and he doesn't understand why all the other cars stick together except this one. Otherwise it is typically great Melissa and Doug quality and I'm happy with our purchase.

These are cute for kids. Bought 2 - one for each grandson. A little on the heavier side for small kids but so nice that it can be folded up with all pieces inside. Nice toy to travel with.

Always been a fan of Melissa and Doug. This is a staple of my sons. It’s easy to break down and I like the box for storage! We always travel with it and it keeps him occupied for a hot minute! I would suggest putting them in a ziploc bag to prevent them from moving around
