Mixed results - Out of 4 pads purchased: 3 were good pads, 1 was not so good
I purchased these pads on two different orders about a two weeks apart. The first order I purchased the pad applicator plus two extra pads. The applicator came with one pad. So the first order had in total 3 pads. My deck is 40'x15' to give you a reference and boards are in good condition for the most part with a handful of boards that are on the rough side with cracks and knots but were sanded. Also I was applying one coat of Arborcoat Semi-Solid stain. I was really pleased with the results of these pads at first. I used two pads to stain the horizontal rails (not the spindles though...I used a Woodsmates contour pad on those) along the deck railings (there is a top board, plus two side boards to which the spindles are attached, 6 vertical 4x4x8 supports on the deck that support the roof over the deck stained on all 4 sides, 6 wide steps & wide stringers, plus 6 supports which are around the edges below the deck plus a few other boards. So in other words I felt I got good mileage/use out of the first 2 pads before having to replace. Also, since it took several days to do all these boards I did store the wet pads overnight with the tray in a Kovrd paint tray bag. They stored well so I was then able to use the same pads over multiple days before discarding. Based on the results from the first two pads I debated whether one pad would be enough for the deck floor. I decided to buy a 4th pad 'just in case' figured if I didn't need it I could always return it. Anyway, I started using the 3rd pad. By the way, I had cleaned off the stain build up on the plastic applicator before I put pad #3 on to do the deck floor, again I was pleased with the results. I got about 90% of the deck floor done with just the one pad before the fibers started to fall off. So I only had about 8 more boards to stain. Still pleased that I got almost the whole deck floor done with just 1 pad.I was glad I had ordered the 4th pad afterall and even happier when it arrived 1 day early from the original delivery date. So it was delivered the same day I was staining the deck floor. Well, that was the extent of the good for pad #4. I put the new pad on the applicator. Everything seemed fine. I loaded it with stain same as with the first 3 pads. (I used a brush to load the stain onto the applicator pad. I found this helped me put the right amount of stain each time.) Then I applied the pad to the board, all was fine until about halfway on the board the pad came off the plastic applicator. I checked the plastic applicator to make sure nothing was wrong. There was no build up and the tab was fine, so I put the pad back on and a few feet further down the board the pad came off again. I checked everything again. Nothing was wrong with the plastic applicator, but I did notice the black plastic backing on the pad was looser on this pad then the previous pads I had used. Needless to say it became very frustrating and time consuming using pad #4 to finish the last 8 boards as the pad kept coming off every few feet. Also after only 4 boards the fibers started falling off resulting in some bald spots on the pad #4.So definitely there seems to be inconsistent quality and tolerance range in the manufacturing of these pads. So, in summary: I was very happy with the first 3 pads I used, but very disappointed with pad #4.If the manufacturer can tighten the quality of the black plastic backing on the pads and the quality of the fibers this can be a truly great product. I will also be contacting the manufacturer to complain about the issues I had with pad #4.The first 3 pads made staining my deck easy and a bit of fun, plus saved me a lot of time. Too bad pad #4 tainted my experience.Add'l note: the plastic applicator's threaded connection is on the smaller size. I used the Blue Hawk 5ft threaded extension pole from my squeegee which I purchased at Lowe's. This fit perfectly.

This is faster than using a roller
I stained my deck and boat dock recently with Thompson's Water Seal and at first I used a lambs wool 3/4" nap roller. It was messy and dripped from pan to deck. I wore it out after doing 2 large decks and then switched to this Cabot Stain Pad. The difference is like night & day. No dripping from pan to wood plank, and it also fit better on the planks. Some of my decks were built almost 20 years ago and starting to not be even across. This Cabot pad worked out much better and I got the remainder of the job done in a shorter amount of time.

Great product
Worked well for staining a 20X10 ft deck. Coverage was very good. I was even able to put the product in a plastic bag for a week and finish my deck after that time without a problem. It had stiffened somewhat but was still very usable, and completed the deck with no issues. Others have said it leaves back fibers on the wood; don't know, don't much care, it's a friggin deck. At one point the pad came loose from the handle and fell off, could have been user error, not sure. I was able to reattach it and continue on, but I did notice there is a definite limit to how tightly it can be fastened before the nut slips and is loose again. Could just be me tightening it too much, or perhaps my unit is going bad. Deduct one star for the plastic not being sturdier.

create a single straight line
When staining my deck the brush marks were ruining it. The stain maker recommended this type of brush device and it worked. This size worked best on a 6in. board. I tried a wider spreader on the stairs and it wasn't as clean. You can use it for the space between boards. If used in one sweeping motion there is not a break in the stroke. It required a squeegee to get a clean amount of stain and to prevent drips. It is messy in clean up. I gave up and just used a new head every day. A standard roller pan didn't work well. I ended up using a can pan to get even application. While all this was a bother, it was still easier than a standard brush. I was applying a semi-transparent stain.

Sheds Fibers - LOTS of fibers - new from the package | loved it but beware
I saw the prior reviews about shedding, so I bought extra replacements.First, the product works great. I have a large wooden deck and I've used multiple brushes, sponges, staining clothes and other options, and this applicator on a pole was the quickest, easiest, and most consistent application i've had so far when applying deck oil.The first applicator covered about 850 sq ft without issue, and I tossed that one to do the rails and the other section with a fresh applicator. This new from the package applicator went from "sponge covered in fibers" to "sponge with no fibers" after using on only about 100 feet of hand rails. The whole railing is covered in hundreds and hundreds of fibers.I tossed that one out. The next one I used was as good as the first, clean application and little or no shedding.100% WOULD NOT recommend for any kind of fine woodworking, but it's pretty decent for decks, fencing or whatever doesn't care about shedding fibers.

Great to Paint Deck
I used for hard to reach parts to paint my deck. I had to buy two because the sponges tore. Great tool and I highly recommend to use with a extender.

It’s ok
Maybe I just didn’t know how to use this? It was ok. I found the disposable sponge brushes did the same job for a lesser price.

Broken
Pad holder thread came broken and eventually got to the point that I couldn’t attach it to the extension pole.Pad I had broke down and left shreds in the stain to the point I had to stop using it and use a brush. Not happy

Very good.
Worked better than expected. Great time saver and better than a brush. Used with Ready Seal.
