Works very nicely. The tip is small and allows you to concentrate heat into a thin strip so that you don't deform a bunch of plastic around the joint. I used it on the inside of a cracked washing machine drum (extremely high vibration!) and a month later it has worked phenomenally. Water tight and structurally strong. I had experience with metal welding and p-tex repairs on skis and this was close to a hybrid between the two.Clean the joint properly with a solvent compatible with your plastic, grind it out to a tight fitting vee if possible, preheat your parts with the straight nozzle and have pliers ready to remove the hot tip and convert to the welding tip. You will need to feed the rod with one hand and basically smear it in with the tip. Don't pull the gun, push the rod in, maintain down pressure and it will tractor along on it's own. It should look wet and shiny when it is ready for welding, but don't overheat either. If you have a helper they can follow up with a roller to smash it into itself while still pliabe, but this is not a requirement. I welded an outside joint on a tight radius lip by myself by backing it up with steel round rod in a vise.I'm thinking of all the expensive cracked plastic items i've thrown out over the years that could have easily been saved, and custom projects I never would have considered.

I used this tool in repair a broken plastic playground slide. The trick is to spend quality time practicing to use it. I was surprised at how it wrecked by electric bill. Draws a lot of energy, especially if you need to spend the time practicing with it. It's is a cheaper unit. It doesn't have digital temperature gauge. I suspect the temperature varies while using it. I recommend it.

I have only used this tool for hose coupling removal for now. It is more convenient and controllable than using a propane torch. In the future I will be cutting and seaming tarps sized for my equipment and outdoor storage items.

I can't believe I have not bought one of these much sooner ! I welded up a crack in my 5,000 gallon water storage tank and it held fine with no leaks.

The heat is,,HOT! The pinpoint tip isn't as pinpoint as ud like. Maybe i had setting too high. I was trying to repair a crack, in a utility tub. The blow and heat is so hot, it starts to melt an area 3 times what your trying to hit. So no matter how you try to keep heat contained in the work area, the spread is like an inch and a half. So before u get a puddle on the crack, the surrounding area starts to deform. I used the heat temp diagram, but it's still super hot and,,,the spread is larger than you like. I ended up buying an iron type for the sink. Stil heats fast and if you aren't careful, you'll make more damage that you started with. But at least with the iron,, control is way easier. The air model make be good for thick plastic. But a utility tub isn't that thick a gauge. And the plastic is easily warped. All I can say is. Be careful of what you try to fix with the air model. But its a well made tool.

Easily adjustable heat levels. The fan is quite strong - small parts need to be held in place or they will be blown out of position. The unit is heavy - be prepared.
