at least 4. if nit fir ELAC its 5. they really ARE great speakers
I don't know if it was an interim issue the other reviewer had. But my alphas were always great no revision WANTED . Very good. Best speaker under 500 until the Andrew Jones designs came out. I thought the cheapest AJ pioneer bettered these but on comparison I was wrong. These are livelier without being bright and are IMO a better tweeter then the higher tier psb have too. These are a rebadged Indian designs not Paul Barton's own For the price I never had a problem and on lesser quality material and at low volumes these even outshine my KEF ls-50.As my review will soon say the LS is better for sure. By a good bit. But I generally *enjoy* these a bit more over time on lesser recordings. They sweeten in a very pleasant manner.mainly I write this because I don't see how at the price I could let it sit with only a 3-star review on these, the game has changed in you can get ELAC at this price now, and I'm pretty sure they are better, I have a model ELAC unifi hat's a step higher than this price category, but I'm pretty sure the ones that are the same price are in fact r better, but other than that I can't think of anything at this price that's better, and that makes them 5 star in my book. Today there are cheaper and somewhat better choices. But it's still great speaker. 4 stars OVERALL

PSB Alpha B1 Speaker priced as pair
Alas, the alpha b1s lifespan is coming to an end, but the consumer benefits while supplies last. The p3 and p5 are successor models, both good, but the legendary b1 is going to be discounted, hopefully sharply, and likely will be around in used venues. I paid $200 for mine on this same website. I was surprised. They are lean and muscular with clean clear treble and transparent mids, with enough bass oomph to satisfy that craving for powerful sound. I listen almost exclusively to traditional jazz in a 2.0 format (never ever use subs, never have) I am pleased and satisfied to play my CDs all day long with the b1s. They're not fatiguing. Allow 30 hours break in. I am powering the b1s with a 45wpc Marantz integrated amp. It is a nice match. The b1s are rated 10 to 90 watts with a room sensivity of 91db. They're sitting on light-weight, 20 inch end tables 6-7 inches off the wall behind them, and 8-8.5 feet from one another. I sit facing them with a targeted toe in. I am 7-8 feet from each speaker. It's the standard equilateral triangle set up. Ideally the set up should be a shorter distance. Most receivers and amps will work wonderfully with the b1s. The specified minimum is 30 watts up to 100 for best headroom. The b1s, while they last, are a stunning speaker for the price. I cannot recommend the b1s any more enthuastically. Five stars.

Great speakers!
They are excellent speakers. I run them with a Acurus a250 amp. If you have crappy equipment, you will hear their deficiencies. I do not know how the newer versions sound like, if they still make them, but I bought my 2 pairs of speakers, front and rear from Audio Advisor. They are excellent, all the reviews rate them as excellent.

Worth every cent.
Great speaker with lots of detail. If you want more bass placing them close to the wall will do the trick. I find myself not needing a sub. Best bookshelf speakers under $400 by far. Shipping was fast as well.
