Is the 5 "disc sanding disc not hook and loop and has to be glued each time you change a sanding disc? This could be a deal breaker for sure!!!

It uses self-adhesive sanding pads. You definitely don't want hook and loop pads for this type of application. They have too much "squish" and will negatively affect the accuracy if you're trying to sand something to a specific angle. Pretty much every stationary disc sander ever uses self adhesive pads - I've never seen a single one that uses hook and loop.

what is difference between 2015 model and 2019 model?

I ASKED THIS Q WHEN I SPOKE TO THE MFG. I WAS TOLD ON THE OLD ONE THE BASE WAS HEAVIER. I HAVE A NEW ON, 2019 MODEL AND IT WORKS FINE AN DOES NOT DANCE AROUND ON THE TABLE. IT WORKS FINE. I SHARPEN KNIVES AND SCISSORS FOR A LIVING AND IT WORKS WELL 4 THAT PURPOSE. GREAT PRICE AND I LIKE IT MORE THAN WHAT I HAVE SEEN FROM HARBOR FREIGHT. THIS MACHINE IS MY BACKUP MACHINE.

Can this be screwed down to a work bench?

Yes it can be, but you will likely have to attach it to a board first, then screw the board down. The bolt holes are positioned such that it's difficult to access them dirctly.

Would this have any problems shaping micarta for knife handles???

It would handle it fine. It actually has good power and won't bog down if you need to press into it. Just have the right grit for the material removal rate you want. I bought it for refinishing a steel part with 220 and 600
