Hmayart Self-Taught Chinese Traditional Painting Book/Oriental Sumi Art Course How to Paint Flowers (HH015 - Flowers)

I own many books that teach the art of Chinese brush painting. Some are better than others in communicating steps. Since the best books, at least in my experience, are often from China with Chinese text, the illustrations to be useful must be self explanatory. This book has that. The illustrations are smaller than in some books, but they are clear and the quantity of illustrations are easy to follow and show the sequence in steps. Books can never replace a person as a teacher of an art form, but these books are great for those of us who do not have a "live" teacher near by. I ordered the landscape book as well and all of the above apply to it.

This is a great book if you are already familiar with the subject. The illustrations are very detailed and I have no trouble following them but this would not be true for a beginner unless you read Chinese because the text is entirely in Chinese. The only reason I didn't give give stars was because it wasn't glaringly obvious in the listing that this book was in Chinese only. It is still a very good book for someone who is familiar with Chinese brush painting and is not text dependant.

Great pictures with step by step instructions and style notes, but it’s in Chinese, and I don’t know the language.I’m giving it to a friend who can understand it.

Excellent self tutorial book! The book is written in Chinese. I am not fluent in Chinese therefore relying on the pictures and diagrams. The example pictures demonstrate step by step how to draw and paint elements within landscapes with Chinese brush techniques in a concise way.

Stunningly beautiful book. Excellent quality book. The only problem was is that I don’t read Chinese. I wish they would’ve mentioned that in the description before I purchased them. I did return them but they are absolutely gorgeous.

It is a great textbook-style self-taught book, especially if you can understand Chinese. Detailed explanations with how to use a brush. High quality binding. Excellent purchase all around.

Loved the book. I really needed the step by step pictures as I do not read chinese.

I would like it in English but the photos are easy to understand.
