These connectors are a little pricey, but they are very easy to install and seem quite robust. They snug up nicely. The only downside I've found is that the back side sticks out quite a ways and cannot but shortened. So if you have a board or something close to the penetration point, you'll want to use a regular bolt-washer-nut arrangement, or drill a deep hole for the nut thingy to sink into. Shop around. The price varies a lot.

I've been using these to attach safety rail posts to the deck I'm building, and they're amazingly easy to install. They hold as well as or better than the 1/2" bolts recommended by IRC. No drilling, just put a nut driver in a 1/2" heavy duty drill (a standard drill or impact driver is not up to the task - I used my Ryobi 18V hammer drill on the low speed drill setting), drive the bolt and supplied washer through the joist and post until the washer almost touches the wood, thread the nut on finger tight, then finish driving the bolt. You'll need 3 per post, there are easy to read diagrams included to show the various ways to install them. Best heavy fastener yet!

I was surprised at how easy it was to use and how effective it seems to be in sandwiching a broken roofer rafter together. Two new boards on each side of the breaking rafter and these pulled it all together and quickly too. Great product.

These did exactly what I needed them to do; fasten 4x4 posts to rim joists on a 12'x20' deck/porch (partly roofed). They work just like demonstrated on the FastenMaster website and pull the post tight to the joist (except you must clamp post or it will try to push away from you when the screw/bolt tries to enter from the rim joist). I wish I could have gotten some 8" for close to same price as I could have braced with an extra 2x in front and behind strengthening the post even more. As someone else said, the nut on backside is large so you have to be careful where you come out on the other side of board; i.e. too close to each other and nut can't be applied or too close to side boards same thing. However, if you watch these issues, they self drill in very well. I used my Rigid impact driver and put a box plus in without recharging. I think they are great and save a lot of time.

I saw an ad on instagram about this product. It was exactly what I was looking for when completing my project. My local hardware store didn’t have what I needed, so I took a chance. I had previously used 1/2" galvanized bolts to attach deck railing supports to the deck frame. These bolts really sped up the process and make installing multiple bolts easier since they are easier to space in a 4x4 to prevent the holes from aligning and promoting cracking.

Are use these to install 4 inch pressure-treated posts to my deck. Are used to clamp to hold up the post and the screws go in so quick and firmly that the job was quick and got a great result. Highly recommend this product!

I bought these for use in a tree house product for my Grandson. One corner of the platform is anchored to a tree with lag screws (Not this product). I used these to anchor the rim joist to each Of 3 posts. 6 per corner. $2 per fastener is a bargain when you consider we didn’t have to drill any holes. My 20V impact driver and 5/16 bit made short work of these maybe 10 seconds per fastener. I also like the cap nuts to cover the sharp points.We changed batteries part way through as these do take some juice. I’m not sure a smaller battery would do itI ordered another box for the hand rails. Great product.
