A very nice French press. Buy it.
I wanted a French press that maintained the coffee's warmth without having to pour it into a separate insulated carafe or pour it into a something meant for a warming element. I detest "burned" coffee yet it takes me a while to enjoy my first cup.So with that purpose in mind, I bought this. I'll go over the long list of pros and the short list of cons...What I liked:- Insulating power is strong. This maintains its heat well.- Screen is doubled up meaning it has a primary and secondary screen to push out ground beans. While it is fine, it's not ultra-fine, meaning it's perfect for the French press method.- Capacity is excellent. Holds a full quart of liquid, meaning it's good for two, maybe three if they don't drink jumbo cups.- Action is smooth when pressing.- Lid is clearly labeled to indicate where the opening is so it can be aligned with the spout.- Quality is excellent. Item is sturdy and durable and despite having only one point of contact for the handle, it is as rock solid. The not-as-good, or what I don't love:- French presses are messy. No two ways around it. Cleaning out grounds without dumping down the sink is a pain, especially if you don't compost or are a long way from a door to the outside (like in my office). Dumping in the trash is gross and only half effective as lots of grounds are left behind. The best method I've found is putting a half pot of water in over spent coffee, swirling around and dumping outside, then wiping out the carafe with a paper towel, then cleaning. But at my office, it's a long way to the outside door and I don't want to dump grounds down the sink or water in the trash bin. This is NOT an issue with THIS DEVICE. It's an issue with ALL French presses. So cleanup is aggravating, BUT you can get a French press clean after each use unlike an electric. Coffee always tastes fresh. That's the tradeoff, and I am willing to make it.- Pot is stainless, but outside has a black finish. I am not sure if it's baked or painted on or what, but I don't know if it will hold up over time. I am not saying it's a bad thing, only that it COULD be a bad thing.- Again, to French presses in general, getting the right grind and the right water temperature are the key to a good cup. Some folks who prefer the pour-and-forget method of an electric find a French press picky, but the coffee is great if you're willing to grind it and measure the water temp. So it's not automated, but it leads to a better cup.- While this is great and I recommend it highly, it is heavy for its capacity. That, of course, relates to it being stainless, double-walled and insulated. Which is, again, a tradeoff I am fine with making.Final thoughts: I am glad I got it. Great quality. Great price. Great coffee.

Great potential... but a few flaws.
I originally bought this product because my bodum French press broke after 3 years of regular use. My morning routine consists of getting coffee ready for myself and because I work from home occasionally, keeping a nice brew constantly hot is something that is typical of your run of the mill coffee machine. I figured I’d give this product a try because it promised to keep my beverages warmer longer.PROS:* STURDY - out of the box this product feels study and ready to take on some wear. It is built to last and is heavy enough to have peace of mind that you can rely on its durability.* AESTHETIC - this press is very sleek and looks amazingCONS:* DESIGN: there are a couple of flaws to the design that are worth mentioning: (1) if you like to clean your filters for grounds after each use, please note that the top of the press bar “twists off” easily, which is great if you want to separate the bar from the lid, however, because it is so easy to take off the top of the press bar, you’re left with no leverage to remove the section of the bar that connects to the round filters below. After a few days of not being able to get the filters removed from the press bar with my hands, I opted to use pliers and once I removed the bar from the filters, I frankensteined my old bodum press bar onto the filters for this press; (2) visibility of coffee - I didn’t think that this would be something of notability, but not being able to see how your grounds are becoming coffee can be a slight challenge if you’re looking to make lighter coffee. I typically leave my grounds resting on top of my hot water for ~ 5 minutes before pressing, but not being able to see the complexion of your coffee can be slightly disconcerting.* HEAT RETENTION - I’m not convinced that the heat retention of this press adds more time than your traditional glass French press would, which is odd because it IS double walled. My coffee in this press is typically lukewarm in about an hour and a half.

Works well. Nice deal
So, I started making pressed coffee with a cheap press pot from Target. It was a pretty standard affair -- glass beaker, the rest was plastic, save for the metal plunger. Oh, and the mesh screen on the plunger? Couldn't be taken apart for cleaning. You'd pretty much have to replace the whole thing once the screen inevitably wears out. So now that's just a pitcher without a lid. So. . . not wanting to repeat that experience, I turned to Amazon and found what looked like the sturdiest thing I could find. That's this little gem. I got it a while back and managed to keep it pretty shiny. Every single part of it can be taken apart for thorough cleaning. A press pot is just a press pot, though. The coffee you get is pretty much only as good as your grinder -- even if you use all three of the mesh screens at once, you still need a coarse, even grind for a good, clean cup. But more importantly, you also need a good, clean brewer if you want a good cup of coffee -- residual oils from the last brew can go rancid and ruin that nice, fresh brew you just made. Solution? Get a press pot that you can easily take apart and thoroughly clean after each and every use. Stainless steel is easy to clean as long as you clean it rather promptly. If you're new to using a press pot, you may opt for one with a glass beaker instead, as that allows you to see what you're actually doing. But even then, you'll probably want to upgrade to stainless steel eventually, due to its excellent heat retention and its longevity. Although the mesh screens should be changed about once a year, I expect the rest of this product to last as long as I do, otherwise I'll update this review to let you know.
