Will 2 hangers work on a 12 ft length of cement siding or would 4 hangers work better?

Two work just fine. One 3 ft from the end and one 3 ft from the other end leaving 6 ft in the middle. This allows " wiggle " room at the ends for flashing install and hanger removal.

Will this work on a 12" hardi lap siding?

I'm not sure....... If they're calibrated for a 1-1/4 inch overlap, it shouldn't matter ( I would think)....... I didn't know Hardi made 12" siding........ They worked for me using 9" and 7" siding. Either way, they left a 1-1/4" overlap, and worked quite well, after I became acclimated to the "correct procedure".... If I may suggest,,,,,,, with regard to "cutting" siding panels. I tried siding panel circular "saw blades" with the resulting dust storm and inaccurate results.... I ended up using a try-square and a sheet rock knife to "etch" >BOTH SIDES< of the siding panels. Then, at the edge of the workbench, stress the "etch" in both directions to "break" the panel at the desired location...... This also works on diagonal cuts if done with clamps... It beats the hell out of breathing all the dust. Start with a "light etch" for accuracy, then cut deeper after establishing your line..... And, constant sharpening is necessary. Sheet rock knives are MEAN ! !, so Please, be careful. Sometimes, I'll scrap the end of panels on concrete to smooth the edges...... Hope this helped.

There 2 in a pack which is all you need. This is a well conceived product and works well.

The answer is it will not work on 3/8" thick material. The Malco was designed to fit on 5/16" material. It might be possible to bend the tab to fit over 3/8", but the gauge stop where it sits on top of the previously attached siding is only 1/8". Buying the ones designed to fit the LP is a wiser choice. The material height is irrelevant as only the lap is gauged. Simply put the Malco works on hardie siding in all widths from 6.25 to 12 inches. Hope this info is helpful. Just for the record, if faced with using my malcos on a job using LP siding I would try bending the tab. I would not buy a set just to experiment with.
