Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar(TM) Diet Review: Healthy, sensible, simplistic weight loss plan - I give Dr. Gott a standing ovation for creating a simplistic plan for weight loss. Complex plans that require higher math skills (a la 40-30-30) or intense memorization (is it no carbs with proteins or no fats with carbs or no fruit with protein or other carbs?) tend to frustrate dieters at some point in the process and they resort back to the old, weight-gaining ways. Dr. Gott's plan has 2 main rules - don't eat anything with flour (in any form) or sugar (in any form). C'est tout, as the French say (and we all know they don't get fat...:) The fact this plan is simplistic does not mean that it is easy to follow. I have been amazed daily when trying to follow Dr. Gott's basic recommendations how much food I eat on a normal basis that contains sugar and flour (and I suspect any self-respecting comfort-food loving, chocolate addict will feel the same). No bread (but you can have corn tortillas that are not made with corn flour). No pasta (mama mia!). Most cereals are out (except whole grain with no added sugar of any type). No desserts at restaurants (although there are some great recipes in the book). What does that leave, you ask? Wholesome foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins (although I'm a vegetarian, so that means soy products and beans), and whole grains like oatmeal (which I'm eating now), bulgur, brown rice, etc. (but NOT anything made with whole wheat FLOUR). Basically, what this plan does then is cut out all the processed foods which we shouldn't really be indulging in, anyway, and it concentrates on whole foods that are healthy and nutritious. For those who would rather die than give up sweets, Dr. Gott does allow products with artificial or fruit sweeteners, so you can still have your Diet Coke (not exactly a health food, but we have to have some vices, right?) and anything else you can find that is sweet but has no flour or "real" sugar. Anyway, by cutting out a large portion of the processed junk we Americans have grown accustomed to, Dr. Gott has created a simple, inexpensive, and healthy way to successfully lose weight and gain health. For these reasons, I give him a high 5. Thanks, Dr. Gott (and thanks Splenda :) Review: good info - helped me lose over 40 lbs

Great read , works and easy to follow.
I didn't buy Dr Gott's book for weight purposes as neither my Husband or I are over weight.I bought this because we all no Sugar can and will cause havioc on our bodies one way or another. My Husband seems to have an addiction to sugar yet never seems to stop buying Icecream etc yet complains constantly how it's damaging him.Im happy he accepted he is addicted and without him knowing I purchased this and placed it on his night stand and wow ! He read this in a few hrs very simple to read and understand . It's pretty basic and Dr Gott explains it very well .I am happy to report he has not stopped sugar completely but now has it once a week so he is not deprived. He says he has alot more energy than he had in his 40s and now eats pretty much only food that grows out of the garden so to say.For myself I never was big into sugar but i have been following Dr Gott's easy plan along with him.I think having someone support you in this battle is key! Thank you Dr Gott!!

Best thing I've done for myself
I have tried many diets over the years, and was skeptical about this one. But to my surprise, this has turned out to be the best one I've tried. I've only been at it about 3 weeks, plus Thanksgiving in there as well, but have lost 6 lbs. It took me all summer to lose 6, but then gain it right back. The 2 top things that stand out for me are, first, I'm not hungry! No grazing, no snack urges, nothing. It just amazes me. Second, it's easier than I thought. The book is informative but not complicated to read, and a very easy premise. No sugar, no flour. Can't be any easier than that. It's a great investment, and I'm learning to cook and eat differently. My husband is doing this with me, so looking forward to see what happens in the weeks ahead.

There is no magic
This book has just about the same information as any other book about nutrition. It has a catchy title, one that makes you think you are finally going to learn - in one easy lesson - how to become svelte and lithe for the rest of your life. Huh-uh. It's the same old low carb info you've read before. If you have enough self discipline to follow this diet and give up bread, sugar and everything else you love, you probably don't need to read the book - you're doing it anyway. If you're like the rest of us, you'll still be fighting the flab and waiting for that magic pill to be discovered that will take it all away overnight. These books wouldn't sell without us dreamers.

Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar Diet Review
I gave this book 5 stars because of the practical content it contains. He explains things in terms everyone can understand. If you're serious about getting control of your health, here is the book for you. Dr. Gott explains that this is a lifestyle change in your eating paterns, not really a diet. The benefit is weight loss at a slow rate that tends to stay off. My husband has been on this for just under 2 months and has lost 15 pounds. His energy level has been improved dramatically. He still has another 30-40 pounds to lose, but is committed to do it. One of the best things he has said to me is, "I really don't feel like I'm dieting at all". I am not as strict as he is, but I could stand to lose about 15 pounds myself. So for us, this is the way we will be eating forever. By the way, we're both over 50 years old and losing weight. Imagine that?

Simple and Effective.
The concept just...makes....sense! Healthy eating can't get any easier than this. 7 lbs in 3 months and I never feel hungry or unsatisfied. The sugar was easier to give up than the flour-I do love my pasta, and actually once a week I have a bowl of it or a slice of pizza and I'm good for the rest of the week. It's all about paying attention to how much you consume, cooking fresh foods (nothing processed), and not depriving yourself. I didn't do this to lose weight, I wanted to eat healthier and the 7 lbs are just a by-product of healthy living.

A Work in Progress
Two friends and I are following Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar Diet. We find that it is pretty easy to follow; a lot easier than we thought initially. A few days without it and you don't seem to crave it anymore. Besides, there are a lot of carb alternatives to flour - potatoes, rice, Rye-ola Bread. And pizza is pretty good when you just eat the top off of it!. We are only in our second week. I have lost 6 pounds, but we don't know what the future will bring. I am trying to get more exercise as well! I hope the pounds continue to come off! Check with me agian in about 6 months.
