I'm not sure why people are complaining so much- took me about an hour and a half to install, very very sturdy, looks nice, affordable and safe! I chose this top of the stairs gate because it was the right height and width. Make sure you measure the space and height you need before ordering any gate and then complaining about it. Love the flexibility with adjusting the width and that it comes with extra latches so you can install the gate to swing and latch inward or outward. 10/10! Thanks for helping me keep my toddler safe!

We used this to block off the laundry room/pantry space/garage entry from the dog. It's nice that we can set the height so that the bottom gap is big enough to let the cats slither underneath it (their food and box are in the pantry space) without letting the dog in there. It looks REALLY nice. We have an industrial steampunk Victorian aesthetic in the house and this works nicely and will look good for a long time, because it's solid. I really like that it screws solidly into the door jamb, and it is definitely one-handed opening; I had a full basket of laundry going through there today and it was very easy to open and shut behind me.The instructions are printed small and there are confusing spots, but if you lay everything out and look at it it starts to become clear, and you figure it out. But I'd make sure you've had your morning coffee first.

Installation was easy and instructions were decent. It's a little taller than standard baby/dog gates which is great for dogs that like to jump over things. The mechanism to open is a simple flip of the thumb and the gate can be installed on either side/direction, which is handy. When you close it, you need to slightly lift the gate (on the hinge side) and we found that lifting the gate and closing it isn't always a one-handed operation but overall it generally works well enough for a very simple design. Overall closes securely and works as advertised, and since it has no bar at the bottom it works well for our use at the bottom of a staircase. Dinged one star for the cheap plastic components that hold the two sides together, which make the whole door rattle and don't seem very strong and I worry about how well they will hold up to the abuse of 3 energetic dogs. Some black gorilla tape helped to DIY a solution that has basically eliminated the rattling noise and makes the whole gate feel more stable and secure, so easy enough to remedy. Overall very satisfied and it is meeting our needs in a high-traffic area on a daily basis without issue, and I would recommend as a good solution if it meets your needs.

Cons: it might just be mine, but my instructions were missing so I had to go on YouTube and assemble it that way.Pros: dogs can’t get this one down. Very sturdy, installs into the wall great and the swing of it awesome that it does not squeak! I own two pitbulls and they have finally met their gate match.Perfect for those who have dogs who like to escape and wander around the house or kids who can climb or unlock the gate. The height of it is perfect!Recommend this gate!

I actually tried to cancel this order after reading some of the reviews talking about how terrible the instructions were, but I’m glad it shipped before it could be canceled. The instructions do suck however, so I didn’t use them at all. Found a video on YouTube from the company who makes this and it was super simple to follow. There was another video I watched and it was helpful, but not as much as the official one.Gate looks good and is sturdy. I did one extra step however and used wall anchors because I didn’t have a stud in the wall where i needed to put it. It’s also why i positioned the hinges towards the banister since that’s gonna be taking majority of weight.Overall very happy with this. We didn’t want out toddler going up the stairs and previously we were using a pressure mounted gate from Walmart that was falling apart and she had figured out how to get past. This one should last us awhile because its a lot taller and a lot more sturdier.I hated to drill into the banister but the peace of mind is worth it

Looks as if it’s made of decent quality however if you are buying to ensure a child’s safety at the top of stairs DO NOT. Bought this to keep my 3 and 5 year old grandchildren from going down stairs alone but my grandson can open it.

I put in my hallway to keep my Lab and Sheepadoodle out of back of house and it works great.
