Junior History Book 2
This is the second of three Junior History books (the series continues with the later, “So You Really Want to Learn History” books for older children). Aimed at children in Key Stage 2, these books are ideal for Year 3 – 5 and are fantastic for any parents wishing to enhance their children’s history curriculum or who are home schooling. This particular book has the following chapters:Chapter One: Who Were the Greeks?Chapter Two: The Wars With PersiaChapter Three: Cities and Civil WarsChapter Four: Life in 5th Century BC AthensChapter Five: Macedonia and Alexander the GreatChapter Six: Who Were the Romans?Chapter Seven: Life in the RepublicChapter Eight: Rome’s Domination of ItalyChapter Nine: Civil WarChapter Ten: Roman EntertainmentEach chapter is packed with information – from myths and legends, to Athens and Sparta, the Olympic Games, the Latin language, Julius Caesar, Cleopatra and the decline and fall of the Roman Empire, this is a brilliant book. At the end of each chapter there are loads of activities from comprehensions, writing activities and exercises to really stretch your child – such as asking why historians should accept one version of events over another and looking at different sources of information. The answers are not included, but if you visit the galore park website (the address is on the book) you can download, along with a mark scheme. I think these books are fantastic to really engage and interest your child in history and the comprehension and writing activities will also help their English.

A detailed book on ancient history.
A well written book but perhaps too much for a yr 3 student.
