Middle School: Big Fat Liar (Middle School, 3)

"Middle School Odyssey"
This book is probably one of my favorite books of comedy and adventure, but throughout, there were so many lessons you could take away. Georgia's fun and lifelike journey through her first year in middle school taught us who she was as a person; creative, smart, and generous. The book has a ton of details that make you feel like you are in Georgia's shoes, you get a whole new point of view of each character, and there are lots of parts that make you wonder. The story take place in Hills Village, Georgia Khatchadorian plans to excel at Hills Village Middle School in all the places her troublemaking brother failed. She's even bet him that she'll quickly become one of the most popular girls in school. But Rafe left a big mark at HVMS, and no one will give Georgia a chance! Even worse, Rafe has sneakily signed up her band to play at the school dance, and she's terrified to embarrass herself in front of the snooty "Princesses" who run the school and the boy who's caught her eye. Will she be able to overcome her fears and win her bet with Rafe? Find out THE TRUTH about Rafe Khatchadorian's sister in the first Middle School story from the point of view of Georgia. Georgia and Rafe are very different and Rafe likes to be mean to Georgia. We get a whole new point of view of Rafe, in the other books he had been very innocent and only played pranks to prove a point. For example, on page 50 the text reads, "Back in the kitchen, I strained the pasta and ladled on some sauce. 'Hey Georgia, that actually doesn't look horrible,' Rafe said when I placed it in front of him. I smiled sweetly, 'Be sure to eat it while it's nice and hot." Rafe took a huge, greedy bite and hit the roof. Literally. 'Hot enough for you?' I asked, but Rafe didn't answer. He was too busy fanning the flames burning his lips . Hmm. I guess he didn't enjoy the entire bottle of hot sauce I emptied onto his pasta." We can already see Georgia's creativity to get back at Rafe after he was being a jerk. This shows how things are not always as they appear. In this book, there are lots of parts that make you wonder. Like on page 99 when the author explains, "I pulled off my 'safe' outfit and found a pair of plain brown socks. I slipped my feet into a pair of low black boots. Then it was time to dry my hair. No braids, I thought. No gel. just plain. I took the towel off my head. 'AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!'" This makes us wonder what happened but we figure out soon enough. In the book, you feel like you are Georgia. An example of this is on page 77 when the text say, "I have detention. I, Georgia Khatchadorian, straight-A student and Most Outstanding Effort winner, have detention. This did not compute, not even when I was sitting in Ms.Donatello's classroom wondering what fresh torture awaited me." In this passage we can feel what Georgia is feeling; disbelief and misery. We learn that people are afraid of change but things always change. This is an excellent book for preteen readers and anyone who wants a laugh. This book very well relates to the other books but we get a lot different view on things. I rate this book a five of five stars and a must read. Through everything we learn that there are people that you can be friends with but you have to give them a chance.

Good books for 4th grader
So unfortunately for my son, a 4th grader he has to read every night. I decided to try this series and while he still hates reading he does look forward to finding out what happens next in the book. We are on book 5 and he plans to keep reading the series through the summer.

this book was AWESOME however the plot twist (i won't spoil) was not great. Other than that the shipping, quality and writing and drawing was great.(Chris Tebbetts is still my favorite illustrator) Can't wait to read the next book!
