Hellboy Omnibus Volume 4: Hellboy in Hell (Hellboy in Hell Omnibus)

I didn’t start reading hellboy until a year or two ago but I’m so glad I finally got around to it! I almost didn’t want to finish the series because I’ve been so in love with it, and so often comic book series end with disappointment... well, not here! This was such a fantastic story to finish things off with - and that final issue... wow. I don’t want to get into anything that might ruin it for anyone, but it’s a very satisfying conclusion, in my opinion.I will note, though that my copy showed in in very poor condition. I didn’t buy it from a third party seller, but from amazon directly and it’s the second hellboy omnibus I’ve received from them in very poor condition (bent edges, “scrap” marks all over the front and back, etc) — just a heads up to anyone purchasing.

I was very pleased to see that the product arrived in such pristine condition. This is a wonderful addition to my Hellboy Omnibus collection.

This is one of my favorite HellBoy collections. I have read the original saga now, and eagerly await new material. I hope one day HellBoy in Hell can be made into a movie on the same scale as The Return of the King.

This massive collect takes us further into the life and times of Hellboy. As always Mike Mignola's spartan prose and austere art provide a somber and engaging environment to lose oneself in for hours. A great collection for those entranced in the story of a character who will is destined to wear a crown

This story is bittersweet, since it is fantastic in every way, but is also the end. The artwork is fantastic, Mignola’s best ever.

The final omnibus collection of Mignola's iconic run on Hellboy sees the titular character return to the place of his birth. Drawing on numerous classical interpretations of Hell, Mignola's final book in the main Hellboy series is a gorgeous and haunting experience that is also reminiscent of Dante's Inferno (with Hellboy wandering the circles of Hell this time instead of Dante the poet). The book draws on the many short stories Mignola wrote for the character as well as the main series' plot (you definitely do want to have read the short story collections, however, as a few characters from those stories show up here like Hellboy's "wife" and the vampire of Poland). The story ends on a slightly open note that Mignola himself admits in the introduction and epilogue materials may not satisfy all of his readers but feels fitting for the character. Overall it is a fitting dark, beautiful, and weird final chapter for Mignola's most famous character.

What a collection. This marks the final omnibus in the hellboy saga and it is a must read for any fan.

It comes down to this, you'll love it for Mignola and/or Hellboy himself.

I quite enjoyed the narrative, it feels thematically appropriated and well earned. Mike Mignola maintains his dark artstyle in an agreeable fashion while exploring is macabre setting. Some of the pages have a slight 'blur' which I assume is the result of an error when darkhorse was printing this edition (and I've seen in a few comics under their label that I own ) All said, I do quite enjoy my copy of the book...Shame my local deliver dude saw the soft packaging amazon shipped it in and decided to rough-handle it. Maybe send books in a box next time? Or a with nice 'do not fold' sticker?
