


Description Minocycline capsules are prescribed antibiotics used to treat many different bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, skin infections, severe acne, gonorrhea, tick fever, chlamydia and others. It is also used in the treatment of Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Veterinarians use this medication in the treatment of companion animals. Customers may receive this drug under the names Minocin, Dynacin. Uses Minocycline is a tetracycline family drug that may be useful for treating various bacterial infections, particularly when doxycycline is unavailable. It can be effective against some doxycycline-resistant staphylococci. Minocycline is not a good choice for urinary tract infections. Possible Side Effects The most common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances. Occasionally nausea and/or vomiting has been observed, especially when high doses are administered. Rarely, animals may develop diarrhea or loose stools from oral minocycline. This is related to a change in the bacterial population in the animal's intestine. If diarrhea is observed, your veterinarian should be notified, and a change in medication may be indicated. Drug & Food Interactions This drug is contraindicated in those who have shown hypersensitivity to any of the tetracyclines or to any of the components of the product formulation. Please tell your veterinarian if your dog is on any other medication before you start using Minocycline. Precautions As with other antibiotic preparations, use of this drug may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If superinfection occurs, the antibiotic should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted. This drug is FDA-approved for human use.
