I am new to quilting but an experienced sewer. I recently moved to a new house with a log cabin feel so that I would like to put wall quilts in every room. When I discovered so many variations on the theme that allow "log cabin" framing of other motifs, I was hooked...which isn't hard as when I'm hooked on something, I have to have every available item in that theme so I am not missing any of the "big picture". I have believed strongly that without the big picture, judgment is impaired. This book  Judy Martin's Log Cabin Quilt Book is most helpful to get me the variety I need for each room! I did purchase them together from Amazon and would do it again.

My mom and I decided to do log cabin quilts together and purchased this book for the patterns. It has a bunch of helpful hints that were easy to understand. The one problem we had with the book was that the fabric requirements were listed in fat quarters and not at all in yards. So we had to do some math to figure out how much fabric we needed. It also had some trouble areas in certain patterns with not being clear as to what size to cut the blocks/strips. It was not easy to understand for me as a beginning sewer and took my mom who is an expert sewer some thinking to really understand it. We really enjoy the pages of pattern ideas though and plan to use this book for more quilts.

Although 2007 might have you thinking that this book is dated, ignore the thought. This is the most complete resource for LC quilts that I've seen! Although basic quilting skills are assumed, the differences in Judy's method are explained well (e.g. her reasoning behind cutting strips lengthwise rather than the usual widthwise) and layouts are described in detail. There are 66 examples of layouts alone, and more to be seen on almost all the other pages.There are numerous photos of finished quilts shown to inspire you to expand your color palette. Judy also includes suggestions and instructions for plain and pieced borders, binding methods, fabric measuring guides, quilt sizing guide, and guidelines for adapting designs for the blocks and borders. I don't think that there is a single thing you would want to know about constructing LC quilts that isn't included in this book!

Decent shape for a used book.

I like this book as far as the content. Beautiful patterns. I wouldn't suggest this for beginners. Good instructions and pictures. The problem is with the construction of the book. It started coming apart almost immediately. With any instruction book, you're turning the pages and going back and forth many times. This book is not designed for that (at all !!). It should have been spiral bound. I guess as the pages come out, I will hole punch and put into a notebook.

Loved this book - it is a comprehensive guide and takes you through from start to finish with clear instructions about equipment, designing, measuring and cutting fabric accurately and ensuring that you will be happy with the finish. It is brilliant for beginners and skilled quilt makers alike. A truly excellent guide and a must for serious crafters. I am planning a heritage quilt from all my daughter's childhood clothes - even a few favourite shirts of my husband and a couple of items I have loved and worn over the years - I feel really confident that with the help of these simple but invaluable instructions I will create something to be proud of which I hope my family will use for generations.

I saw this book when a friend was making something from it and instantly knew I had to have a copy myself. The designs are stunning, I know I will attempt to make several. They are not for the novice quilter but this is easily the best log cabin book I've come across.

Takes you into a new dimension! Having done many basic log cabin blocks, I wanted something more adverturous; the book gives stimulus to more ideas.

Some interesting patterns and not too difficult to make up. I used it in the class I attend and a few more orders have gone out.
