PowerA Wireless GameCube Style Controller for Nintendo Switch - Purple

I still play my GameCube regularly and the GameCube controller has always been one of my favorite designs. This controller is the same shape and size and almost feels the same to hold. The big difference in feel is the PowerA controller is made from a matte plastic where the original is made from a glossy smooth plastic. To make this a fully compatible Switch pro controller some things needed to change. This controller has a L and R shoulder button where the Original only had a Z button on the right. The L and R are bigger than the original Z button which I feel is a nice change. Both sticks are also clickable and home, share, and minus (select) buttons were added. It also has Gyro so motion control games (like Splatoon 2 aiming) work as it should. The D-Pad is actually bigger than the Original Gamecube controller, which is great as that was one of its biggest flaws. It might eve be better than the Pro Controller D-pad.This controller isn't perfect, there is no rumble and there is no NFC. The triggers are Digital unlike the Original, and they have travel as they were analogue. That means you need to press them all the way down to activate. I wish they would have made the triggers digital and a quick click instead.This is the GameCube design so you will find many games don't have the buttons configured in a way that works well with this controller, and many games don't have the option for customizing controls. I have played tons on Mario Kart, Mario tennis and Mario Kart on the GameCube, this controller feels natural with those games on the Switch as with Smash Bros of course.One more thing some people might not like is that it takes 2 AA batteries instead of having a rechargeable battery built in. Personally I prefer this, I don't have to worry about built in batteries going bad in the future.I love the purchase, I might get another one to have different colors (I wish they had Spice Orange), and for my son to use. My only true gripe is the shoulder buttons, I wish they didn't have the large travel and were a quick click like the Switch Pro Controllers. I would have liked rumble and NFC, but I have to remember this is $30 cheaper than the Switch Pro controller and fully licensed, so I think the price is fair for what you get.One more thing, this controller will wake your Switch from sleep (I assume because it is officially licensed), many other 3rd party controllers wont. That's a huge plus in my book.

I’ve never used an original Gamecube controller but for the switch it works wonderfully all the buttons feels nice and soft but clicky as well as comfortable to hold and the cable is quite long so it will definitely reach no matter where I sit in the room!

I rarely leave reviews, but I had to leave one here because most of the negative reviews here are unwarranted. I almost didn't buy this controller because of them, and I'm glad I did buy it.The main thing I want to bring up is that the Z buttons are not analog. Of course they aren't -- this is a Switch controller. The official Nintendo brand pro controller doesn't have analog Z buttons. Joycons don't have analog Z buttons. As far as I know, the Switch doesn't even accept analog signals for those buttons. Having analog buttons on this controller would be incompatible with the system and with every Switch game in existence. If you have a pro controller, go press the Z buttons on it -- this controller's Z buttons feel exactly like that.T controller feels pretty much exactly the way I hoped it would feel. I played hundreds and hundreds of hours of GameCube as a teen. If this controller wasn't good, I would know it. That's why I was so hesitant to buy it. However, I am not disappointed. The buttons are good and responsive. The sticks both feel good. I really don't have anything to complain about.There are only two things I would change: add rumble, and add an internal, rechargeable battery that charges with USB C exactly like the pro controller.

A Gamecube style controller with the same amount of buttons as a JoyCon or Pro Controller sounded like a great choice for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.But then on December 7th (Smash Ultimate's released date) when they were scheduled to come in, not only did they BOTH get delayed after I ordered 1-Day Shipping, one of the controllers had a left Thumbstick that drifts to the right without any input.The controller body around the +/-, Capture, and Home button on both controllers have scratches that cannot be wiped off.The controllers themselves feel more cheap than the official ones, with the plastic around the seams sticking out and feeling noticeably scratchy.The digital triggers got tiring after a while of having to pull them in all the way every time. The original controller has analog inputs, but it would sense the trigger pull just about half way in. These do not.It isn't all bad, though.The buttons, thumbsticks, and triggers all feel "okay." The ZL/ZR buttons (triggers) are made of a glossy plastic (unlike the matte finish of the official controllers), so they can get slick with the oil from your hands after a while.The detachable cable is solid and thick, so there is no worry of it breaking at all.The controller itself is light, mainly because of the lack of rumble and motion control.The extra Switch buttons (Home, Capture, etc.) all work as they are supposed to.The controller connects instantly without any problem, however it will not wake up the system from sleep.They are just as comfortable to hold as the original controllers.The controllers both function without any issue aside from the drifting thumbstick.My review will remain at 3 stars until I can either get a refund for my 1-Day Shipping fee or I can get a replacement for my controller with the drifting thumbstick.I have already sent an email to claim the warranty on the PowerA website, so until I receive a reply and resolution, my review stands.Overall: it would have been a great purchase if it weren't for these flaws. I hope at least some of my issues will get resolved. I will return to edit this review if anything comes up.*EDIT 1: Sunday, Dec. 9*: I was successful in receiving a refund for my One-Day Shipping fee, thanks to a helpful Amazon associate (thank you again, RAM). I have just sent out my defective controller for a free exchange and I will edit my review again once it comes in around December 21st. So far, it has gone up to 4 stars now.*EDIT 2: Tuesday, Dec. 11*: The shipping time for the replacement controller was just updated to Thursday, December 13, which is a huge relief. PowerA has yet to reply to my email at all, but at this point I don't have much hope for it. Again, I will finalize this review once the controller comes in on Thursday and I can have some play time with it.*FINAL EDIT: Thursday, Dec. 13*: I can happily say that the new replacement controller does not have a drifting thumbstick issue. It works and plays without any issue, however, there are visible scratches on the casing as I've said before. Why this is on a new controller, I don't know. On the other hand, PowerA has yet to reply to my email. So if there is anything to take away from this: Amazon customer service is wonderful.*ADDITIONAL EDIT: Sunday, Dec. 16*: As some people may know, the Nintendo Switch does not have analog triggers; it uses digital triggers. Since these controllers were made with that in mind, they do not have any sort of analog input. What this means is that in order to have the triggers actually receive an input, you would need to pull the trigger all the way in until it clicks. Gamecube controllers were known for their long trigger pulls, so this would get tiring fairly fast (especially for using shields in Smash Bros). The only option I had was to open it up (with a Philips head screwdriver) and place some sort of buffer between the trigger piece and the actual rubber dome that made contact with the input switch. While this was not too much of an issue to do (I used a cut up replacement eraser for a mechanical pencil as a buffer), it is still something that I need to let you know.Final Verdict: They are solid controllers that feel just like a classic Gamecube controller with a few differences. When there aren't any issues, they are wonderful to use. However, if I had to give a suggestion for a controller, I would steer you towards buying a Switch Pro Controller if it fits in your budget. Trust me. And if you wanted a Gamecube-style controller, then this will suit you just fine... given that you don't run into any issues with drifting thumbsticks or unresponsive customer support.

Almost perfect replica gamecube controller for the switch. For those who want to knitpick over the feel, button size, etc, it doesn't matter. It works just like a gamecube controller but does not have vibrate. I use it for TOTK and it works wonderfully.

Excelente control, ka calidad de materiales es muy buena y se conecta fácil a la switch. Más de 1 año de uso jugando smash bros y no tiene drift.

I play smash regularly and i swear by these controlers. I find it to be good quality and like the extra added L button adds extra layer to my gaming. However a change has been made from the last batch... Instead of the ZL&ZR trigger buttons being spring loaders like the previous batch, they are now button orientated and the button its self only presses down halfway. Annoyingly now i cant get a short hop out of my jumps because of this change. Now i must alter my gameplay to adapt, not the worst thing in the world but more of an inconvenience. If you could change it back to the original model i would be chuffed and will happily rate you back to 5*. Other than that all is well with this product.
