Grow a garden filled with beautiful Cactus Dahlia flowers, from freshly harvested Dahlia variabilis flower seeds. Cactus Dahlia will produce gorgeous flowers in shades of white, orange, red, pink and yellow. The blooms have rows and rows of tightly packed, needle like petals expanding from their centers. The plants themselves will grow to a mature height of roughly 36 to 52 inches tall, taking of a fair amount of space. Cactus Dahlia is grown as an annual flowering plant, meaning that they will grow quickly from freshly harvested flower seeds, bloom profusely during the summer months and will later die with the first killing frost. the plants can regrow from seeds that fall to the bare ground beneath. These gorgeous flowers will attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as butterflies, bumblebees, hummingbirds & even ladybugs as well. Cactus Dahlia's can be used as a cut flower in floral arrangements and bouquets as well. These plants mix will with Zinnias and can be grown hand in hand for a beautiful sea of colorful blooms.

Quick sprouting seeds, healthy plants
I ordered two of these packets. One packet contained 190 seeds, and the other packet had 178. I sowed all 368 in a coconut coir starting mix. Three days later, 77 had germinated. In a week, I had 276 seedlings. That's 75% germination in 7 days! This number will probably go up slightly in the next week, but you can expect germination to be between 75% and 80%. I will update as they grow.EDIT: These turned into healthy, robust plants. Some are as tall as 4 1/2 - 5 feet! Due to dahlia genetics, you probably aren't going to get those show-stopper fully double or dinner plate types. If that's what you're after, you should get tubers. Growing from seed is very easy and exciting, so just treat these as annuals. On the off chance that you do get an amazing flower or one that you really like, you can save the tuber at the end of the season. You will get tubers, but their size will depend on the plant, its location, whether you fertilize it, etc. I dug up a few plants to take a photo of the tubers. The small ones came from dahlias grown in the shade. The larger ones were from dahlias grown in full sun. Here's a quick timeline of events, measured in days after sowing:- 17-25 days: Transplant into 2" pots- 25 days: Plants with LOTS of roots transplanted into 4.5" pots- 52 days: Largest dahlias made a trip south to zone 8a- 58 days: Those that stayed in zone 6a were repotted into 6" pots- 70 days: Southern dahlias started blooming- 76-79 days: Northern dahlias planted in the ground- 111 days: Northern dahlias started blooming

Please
I am SO PLEASED with these seeds! My understanding was that I would not have any tubers at the end of the season. Was I surprised under just 2 plants( probably 3-4 seeds) each I dug up ( picture) this many alone. WOW! I'm excited to dig the rest up and enjoy many years of these beautiful flowers.
