Requires Lots of Torque
I am giving this 5 stars but it's more like 4.5 It requires quite a lot of torque to obtain voltages in the 12-to-14-volt range For experimenters who are trying to reach near perfect energy transfer this increased torque is likely going to be a problem. For the average person just trying to produce a little power this is fine. I ended up designing and building my own generator with far less needed torque. Good Luck!

Decent Construction, Low Power Output
I purchased this for a wind turbine demonstration project. From outer appearances, the motor construction is not great, but decent. I did not take it apart to examine the windings on the armature or brushes on the backplate. I used some custom heavier, turbine blades, so I did not get very high RPMs when using a fan for driving the turbine, but you can see from the graph that the "No Load" voltage output is generally linear with shaft RPM, and I would expect the generator to require over 1000 RPM to reach 12 VDC no-load output. When attaching LEDs or an appropriate step-down circuit to charge a cell phone or run a USB-connected lamp, I measured output powers between 100 - 350 mW. I attached a 15-in, 2-blade "Pacific Sky" turbine blade to the generator and got a no-load output of 15.5 - 17.5 VDC in a 4-4.5 m/s wind (as shown in the video), but had no way to directly measure the RPM of this particular blade. Extrapolating from the earlier data, I estimate 1400-1500 RPM. When attached to a 10-ohm resistive load, the voltage dropped to 1.3 - 1.5 volts, indicating an output power of around 200 mW, but I did not try to determine the optimum load for this blade configuration. For the price, it's a bit expensive for a child's science experiment, but it seems to have limited capacity at low wind speeds (~4.5 m/s) to do much besides trickle-charging phones or perhaps 12V batteries with the appropriate turbine blades and circuitry.

excellent source of energy
This wind generator is an excellent power source,I use for charging my boat battery along with a solar panel to get continuous power for my battery to use the power for trolling motor and my fish finder with also my radio.

I recommend it for any wind generator project
I judt purchased it with the wind blades for my sun project back in the school it's really arrived in time and works perfectly. I recommend it for any wind generator project.

Not Too Impressed
Not to impressed. I had to turn the motor with a high speed drill to get the advertised output. Also, I feel this requires more torque than some competitive products.

It does what is needed
This is to be used as part of a small wind generator program I have used them with my classroom project for many years. They are robust, but they break after years of use, take downs, and rebuilding.
