Chess Set: Diplomat European International Chess Set - 20" Chess Board and Wooden Modern Chess Pieces

I purchased this chess set for my dad about two years ago. We like to play chess once and a while and this is the board we've been playing on since the purchase. I took my time looking online for the perfect chess set, comparing tons of boards on this website and others, and this is the one I decided on; absolutely no regrets. You definitely get a high quality chess set when purchasing this board, even though the price is higher than most boards. I believe you get what you pay for with this buy. A big reason why I bought this set was because of the sheer size of it. The king stands over 4" tall and the queen a little under that. The pieces are the size of my palm, which, in my opinion, makes the chess match that much more exciting.The wooden pieces feel durable, and them being hand carved makes it all the better. When you have the chess set laid out on the table, with the pieces set up in the starting position, you can't help but smile. You can tell that this had some time put into it to make it look how it does; lots of detail. The only issue I have with the board is anywhere where there is felt, under the pieces and under the board, feels like it's going to come off with time and use. Other than that it's a pretty flawless product.The board folds from the middle which allows you to store the pieces; this is a huge cherry on top. Most of the chess sets I've played with, you have to have a separate bag or container for the pieces, this way everything is together when putting it away. If you want a set that will last for a very long time, has wonderful detail, great size, and could even be used as a center piece at any table (if it's big enough) when not being used, then this is hands down the board for you. I know my family and I have enjoyed it for the last 2 years, I know you will too.

Arrived on time and is beautiful. Even better than I imagined. Bigger than I expected. Looks elegant with great detail. I have nothing negative to say about it.

I bought this as a gift for my husband. When I got it, it seemed a little crude and the workmanship was not as good as I expected. Maybe I expected too much. That being said, my husband loves it. He and my son play chess all the time. The board and pieces are a good size, so that is a plus. If you get it, you won't get "amazing" but you will get a working board and pieces that are better than what you would find at a toy store.

Got this for my 24 year old son for Christmas; he requested a “nice wooden chess set” and was THRILLED! His exact words when he opened it were “this is just what I wanted!” So I was very happy. He loved the board and the craftsmanship and we all loved the fact that the pieces have their own fitted “slots” so they will stay protected when the set is packed up. I’m sure there are nicer sets in the world, but for under $100 I feel like this is an excellent value. Also, as others have noted, the pieces are quite large, which is very cool :)NOTE: at the time I bought this set it was $85. But even for its current price, it’s still worth it.

Even though these pieces aren't weighted, they are great carvings, and huge! They don't need added weight, the pieces are easily distinguished, and high quality. Love this set!

I am so happy with this set! The pieces are so beautifully detailed and are more than I expected in quality. The pieces are large and detailed as you would expect a quality piece for a classic game of chess. It is alpa numeric labeled classically so as the tracking of plays is more efficient.

I have both positive and negative remarks to make.This chess set is absolutely beautiful; I would highly recommend it to others. The one negative is a protrusion under the felt of the white king which causes it to wobble. This is an imperfection on an otherwise perfect set.

This is for my husband and I have not gifted or played it yet. The board and pieces look beautiful. I am surprised at how light it is. The inside compartment for housing the pieces doesn't seem overly sturdy but that is my only con with this set. I spent hours comparing sets from different companies. I am very pleased with this final choice!
