Get Your Kicks on Route 66!
Nice pictorial and written descriptions of tourist attractions along old Route 66, the Mother Road, from Chicago to Santa Monica, California. Handy guide for potential trip planning and popular places to see along the way.

Outstanding Guide for Rt66 with features, history and maps!
We were looking for a book to guide us on an upcoming trip in the Spring, taking actual Route 66 from Oklahoma City to just past the Illinois border. We will travel in our Motorhome to a new Military Duty Base, but take 4 or 5 days of easy travel in order to really experience the unusual and quaint things found on the Mother Road. This book is FILLED with outstanding narratives of attractions and historical monuments along the way.At the same time, maps are included to keep you on Route 66, which can be difficult to navigate at times.Well written, with LOTS of photos, descriptions, instructions, practical tips and cultural humor, this is THE guide we wanted and hoped for. There are others we may use as an adjunct to this one, but clearly this is the reference for America's Mother Road.Easy FIVE STARs for us, along with our hearty recommendation if you plan to travel Route 66... either for business OR for total pleasure. A++!*If you found my review helpful to you, please let Amazon know by clicking the "HELPFUL" button below!

Our best guide for a 66 trip
Of all the books I purchased for my family's Route 66 trip, this book was the most useful. Each evening, we looked over this book together to pick out our destination stops for the next day. Then it was off to the laptop and Google Maps to map out each stop, send the map to my phone via text message, and the next day including lunch and dinner stops were just a drive away. I would highly recommend this book for any Route 66 travelers, especially anybody who doesn't have enough time to take the slow road all the way.I enjoyed the way this book was written. It gives a brief history of the stop, a short summary of what you will find there, and very importantly the exact location. This will be my go to book once again if I am able to do Route 66 again. Of all the different books I had for this trip, this book is the keeper. Other than my photos and souvenirs purchased, this book will help me remember my memorable trip.

Lots of Great Info with One Noted Exception
We'll be using this book as a guide for our trip later this spring. After browsing through it has a lot of great info on Route 66 and the history behind the "mother road". One thing I noticed as I was paging through was on Page 80 detailing the route through Oklahoma. The map shows the route dropping South on Hwy 44 after Oklahoma City, but I believe the route should continue West on Hwy 40. This book contains a ton of interesting info that we'll have handy on our trek West.

Very Informative
I really liked this book. We purchased it before and while planning our Route 66 trip from OK City, Ok. to Rancho Cucamonga, Ca. to become more familiar to its history and places to visit along the route. It's informative and well written and fun to read.I would recommend it for sure!

Can't wait to take a trip on Route 66
Bought this as a reference guide for a future trip. It seems comprehensive and has plenty of illustrative pictures and a map at the start of each chapter.

Enjoyable book!
Last su mer we drove a few hundred miles of the route in Missour, Kansas and Oklahoma. This book was very helpful, not just to find interesting places, but to give their history. The route is often confusng, since the roads have been changed and highways built nearby. But the book is helpful in regards to directions. Reading it is as much fun ad riving the road.(As a shameless advertisement I’ll tell you that by far the best place on our trip was Gary’s Gay Parita Sinclair station, about 25 miles west of Springfield. Gary passed in 2015 but his daughter and son in law continue to keep up the museum.)

Just ok
I don’t like the layout. I wished it went in order of locations.
