Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. ABIGAIL was the second King Diamond album and their first concept album. It was originally released in 1987, selling over 175,000 copies in North America alone. Widely recognized as King Diamond's solo masterpiece, ABIGAIL is also unquestionably one of heavy metal's greatest concept albums. So turn out the houselights, draw the curtains, and listen closely to this dark theatrical story. Ace future Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee matches incredible versatility and envious power for a command performance here, and one can noticeably hear guitarist Andy LaRocque nudging Diamond's erstwhile Mercyful Fate cohort Michael Denner out of the dual lead guitar equation with his inspired leads (he would soon assume an unchallenged position at the feet of the King's throne). As for the master of dark ceremonies himself, King Diamond, too, takes a quantum leap by subjecting his trademark falsettos to layer upon layer of multi-tracked harmonies, transforming what was previously an acquired taste for some into an overpowering and irresistible self-contained chorus sent straight from the pits of hell. Thanks to all of this, the combined quality of the words and music to be found on ABIGAIL make it an exercise in Goth Metal storytelling that remains quite simply nonpareil, among the living, at least.

A Pillar of Heavy Metal
This album is one of the truly great and original metal albums. This album goes up with the likes of Powerslave, Rust in Peace, Painkiller, Master of Puppets, Operation: Mindcrime, and Peace Sells (amongst others, or course). This album places King Diamond in his own technical/ progressive niche. much like Megadeth, Helloween, Death, and SavatageBasically, Abigail is as horror story concept album about a family inheriting a haunted mansion. The sound is a progressive blend of early Ozzy and mid Judas Priest (think Defenders of the Faith's Freewheel Burning or Jawbreaker) with some melodic speed metal along the lines of Keeper of the Seven Key's I & II. The vocals are King Diamond... who needs not be described, only discovered. The band shows off incredible instrumentation in excess throughout the whole album. The drum and bass work are both phenomenal, with Mickey Dee just tearing up the pig skins throughout the whole disc. Andy Larocque and Michael Denner (also of mercyful fate) flex their melodic muscles at every turn with the most over-the-top lead work you will hear on any album. The arrangements are spontaneous, yet cohesive, and in turn help to guide the listener through the utterly spastic and insane singing style that is King Diamond.Depending on the version you pick up, the production quality may vary. It is for the most part meticulous, but there have been instances with one of the copies that I had (I believe it was the Roadrunner pair with Fatal Portrait, but I don't know if that is really any different from any other version) where I was wearing headphones and the music just lacked punch. Just like a flat fuzz of guitars. The real hooks of the songs get drowned out, possibly from an excess of reverb. On the other hand, Abigail sounds absolutely excellent out of any standard stereo speakers.

Great place to visit but, wouldn't want to live here!
Any one who has heard this one knows what to expect. If, you haven't well here's a few things to expect. Fantastic metal with great hooks and unique touches. Don't believe me give it a listen it's call a classic album a number of reasons. King Diamond's vocal delivery is amazing he changes it for different characters in the story of Abigail. This release from 1986 - 87 is not only fantastic but, stays with you after it's finished. I really enjoy the memorable performances by everyone involved. It's difficult to add much more than has already been said about this terrific album. Into heavy metal check this out. You won't be sorry and you can get it on blue vinyl! Hands down a must have for enthusiasts and collectors of the heavy stuff.

Sonically: One of the best sounding albums ever
Let’s start with the real question: “How does this pressing sound on vinyl?”It’s incredible. Sonically, it’s one of the best mastered albums I’ve ever heard. The mix is incredible. Everything is distinguishable and clear.I used this, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, and Ghost’s Impera to dial in my new turntable.Let’s face it: there’s nothing I can say about the music that hasn’t been said 100 times. It’s an amazing metal album. One of the all time greats.I got the Cobalt Blue variant. Its nice and flat. Every song sounds perfect.

The Best King Diamond album ever recorded
This is obviously the album to have. No matter if you're new to King Diamond or you've been listening for years this album remains the quintessential masterpiece topping everything recorded before or since (Including his Merciful Fate contributions). You'll be listening to this again and again. It's the most hair raising and bone chilling of any concept album ever made. A Bedtime story to give you nightmares. Each song is a chapter to the story. Synopsis to the story: A man inherits the family mansion that has a very dark and tragic history...and history repeats itself soon after moving in. A Dark entity named Abigail still stirs within the house...a demonic soul in the form of a mummified child locked away in a sarcophagus deep within the cellar of the mansion. The evil within awaiting for the chance to be reborn into this world and that chance has come! Get this Album if you dare. Listen at your own discretion. More graphic, horrific and grizzly than any other King Diamond album you've ever heard. Guaranteed Chills.

Best old school metal album
Just discovered Mercyful Fate and King Diamond and wow i feel like i missed out on all these albums in my early influential teenage years. Abagail is my favorite right along his album Conspiracy. The guitars punch in the solos and every song is pretty catchy. Blue vinyl is cool and sounds terrific.

Amazing album, pressing could be better.
This is a masterpiece from King Dimond in any format. This pressing is a bit disappointing. Light (thin) which could be forgiven as reasonably priced vinyl versions were hard to come by for a while. The biggest sin is the flash remaining on the edge.
