This is my 3rd Gunvault. They are mostly good, but here are some observations:
I just received a new Gunvault, my third, after my previous one stopped opening via the finger pad. That was my second Gunvault, after the first also stopped working via the fingerpad. I used each of the first two Gunvaults almost daily for 5-7 years (each). Here are a few observations:First of all, I ordered this model, listed as GV2000S. I received GV2000C_STD, which appears identical. I emailed Gunvault asking if there's any difference between the models. This isn't a complaint, I'm just letting you know of a possible concern. I'll update this review if Gunvault replies to the email. This Gunvault appears to function without any problems. The previous models I owned used eight "AA" batteries, and access was more difficult because the battery holder was attached inside (small work area) with screws which required a stubby phillips screwdriver. This one uses one 9-volt and no tools are needed, which I consider an improvement. After attaching the battery to the wire, slide battery into metal clip on the interior roof, then turn battery sideways until it clips firmly into place. Follow directions to program your code sequence. There is also an option to disable the audible beeping fingerpad (I like it disabled for quieter opening). The interior shelf, as others have stated, seems below the overall level of quality you would expect. Each of my previous two Gunvaults eventually failed due to small spring clips breaking in the opening mechanism. The clips break after time, and mine are opened and closed at least twice almost every day. A rough estimate of 600 openings (and 600 closings) per year x 6 years = 3,600 openings (Note: I try to change batteries yearly) That life seems pretty good to me. I took my first Gunvault directly to them (they used to have a location in Phoenix, AZ). I wasn't overly impressed with their customer service on that visit. The grumpy technician replaced the broken spring clip in a few minutes and charged me $20 after I drove across town and carried it to them. I thought they might replace the $0.03 clip without charge. Anyway, that was several years ago and not significant in this review. The reasons I feel 4 stars (not 5) is appropriate:1). The opening mechanism life seems adequate, but it's unsettling that a cheap spring clip can cause failure without warning. See: Murphy's Law.2). Plastic shelf is cheap. In summary, I've bought 3 of these and believe they are a good balance of function, cost, and quality. There is room for improvement, but this is a good way to keep a gun out of unwanted hands and still allow reasonably quick access when you need it.Regarding the model number issue (see top), I'll update my review when Gunvault responds with clarification.

Lasted only 2 years, now it has to be thrown in the trash
I purchased this a little over two years ago and it failed. For the last couple months it’s been draining batteries in about 30 days. On average I get into the safe about 2-3 times per month. I’ve tried a few different brands of battery including the ones that they recommended and all of them are being drained much too rapidly. I contacted the company about the issue and they said that since it is over the one-year warranty period they can do nothing for me. They won’t repair or replace them after the one year. So if it breaks beyond that you get absolutely zero help. I now get to throw this in the trash and start looking for a different brand. Save your money and buy something else.

Has its faults, but it works for me
I bought this after returning a Stack-On biometric quick access safe that would never read my fingerprint. This does what I need it to - gives me quick access to a handgun when I need it, but there is room for improvement.First, this product is fine for keeping your kids from gaining access to your weapon. This is not fine for keeping criminals away from your valuables. A thin prybar could open the safe given some time. There is a small gap around the door. Not huge, but big enough to get something in there to pry it open. The keypad combinations are good in theory. You can depress multiple buttons at the same time and have that count as one keystroke. This gives many various combinations that can be used with just the four fingers. The problem is that the key pads don't always register for me when I press them. The quality of the buttons could use some great improvement. I sometimes have to press twice, or press extra hard for them to work. As a result, I am forced to use only a single button per keypress because that way I know whether or not I am actually successfully hitting the key. If I have two buttons in a single keypress, and it beeps, I could be missing one of them and wind up entering the wrong combo. The door swings open very hard when opened. I have this on a shelf on my nightstand and when the door swings open, the box jumps a little. The middle shelf is pretty flimsy and falls down all the time.Overall, it's does what I need it to do. There are unfortunately very few alternatives to gaining quick access to your guns, and even with the shortcomings of this particular product, it's the best there is out there.

Sturdy and reliable
Highly trustworthy brand. Love the key pad, extra shelf, sturdiness, and ability to mount to a surface. Deduct one star because after I installed the battery, the "roof" foam won't stay put and droops down.I have had several of these. I tend to wear out the motor after about 7 years of daily use, but have not found a better product at the same price point. When the motor wears out it makes a great lock box for other valuables to use with the back up key.

not as good a the first one
This is my second purchase of a Gunvault. I believe my first one bought a few years ago was manufactured in the USA and this one was manufactured in China. The exterior finish is slightly different on this one, not as good a the first one.
