I’ve read a couple different translations, but I’ve got to say this is my preferred edition for teaching it. The translator does a masterly job of remaining faithful to the original text but at the same time making it accessible for readers.

New English translation from Latin of the classic poet/writer Ovid. The Metamorphoses is a retelling of classic Greek and Roman myths, from Ovid's particular point of view. His ironic style indirectly pokes at the ego of his contemporary, Emperor Augustus. His descriptions of the beauty and power of nature are vivid. Most notably, he uses his imagination to create inner monologues in the minds of classic heroes and heroines, giving them a more 3-dimensional image to the modern reader.
