Awesome book
I've picked out a couple of things to make so far. I would have made a cake for Christmas but I didn't have all the ingredients I needed. Beautiful pictures, also has a forward written by David McCullagh who wrote the forward for the City Tavern cookbook as well. Love the history with the recipes in this book. I also watch "A Taste of History" whenever it is on. Excellent book and would definitely recommend it as well as the City Tavern cookbook. They make a great set.

One word.....FANTASTIC...!!!
This is a fabulous cookbook filled with recipes and vivid photos of our country's 18th century sweet treats along with historical information of the cuisine. Chef Staib is an expert in 18th century cooking. In addition, he is the chef-owner of the City Tavern in Philadelphia, PA,(opened Dec., 1773),author of "City Tavern" cookbook, and host of "A Taste of History" food show on PBS. This is a perfect companion to the City Tavern book and, along with the recipes, is just an interesting book to read and display on your coffee table. Thank you, Chef Staib, for sharing your expertise and knowledge.

A culinary history
How eagerly I turned the pages of this most interesting history of early cooking and cooks in the US colonies. Some of the ingredients used by our ancestors. The photos are marvelous and recipes so well written for the modern kitchen.

Great Recipes, Great History, Great Photography
This is a wonderful cookbook. The photography is gorgeous. The history is fascinating. The recipes, which are well written and easy to follow, are *delicious*. I highly recommend both this book and the PBS TV series hosted by the same wonderful chef. I am not ordinarily a fan of cooking shows, but his is fantastic. So are his cookbooks.
