Mutes a little or a lot depending on your room, or show
I've been using this for some years now, and with the magnetic buttons to fold less off the head, or not, works great! We play 4 45 minute shows where we segue between songs, so there's no time to fix anything while going through a show. And it's held on, never popped off, and lets me adjust the muting depending on the room or venue where we are playing. The sound guys like it as they don't have to set the gates and limiter too high in their rack at the sound booth. :)

Better than gels.
These are perfect for me. So much better than gels. Gels create a sort of dead zone on the drumhead which can throw off the overtones and make for a weird decay. I mainly play jazz and like my drums to sing, but sometimes I need a touch of control depending on the music or the room. These apply just the right amount of sustain control, and are easily adjustable depending on the amount desired. They allow the full tone of the drumhead to come through, then gently dampen it. I use overtones as pops of color in my playing, and I find that gels remove too much expressive potential, resulting in a one-dimensional sound. They either kill the overtones completely or make them very pitchy and note-like, which just sounds obnoxious to me. With these, the overtones are still present and available, but don’t dominate or sustain as much. Awesome product.

So much better and more versatile than moon gels.
I play a Ludwig Supra 6.5 x 14 with an Evans G1 coated batter (Ludwig standard snare side head). I usually put just one full moon gel on the batter to get it right where I like it, just a bit of ring, no extra snare buzz. The thing I always hated about moon gels is, I take them off to tune the drum and would always lose them, or put them on my throne and then sit on them, etc. Or they get dirty after a while. I love this thing. I found that folding both flaps in is the equivalent of a full moon gel, almost exactly. I can easily pop it on and off for tuning. And if I want more muffling, I can fold one side or both sides down, depending on the song and sound I want. Highly recommend. To me the larger size would be way too much, but again, I like my drums pretty open and resonate and a little ring on the snare, but not much. I figure why use a Supra if you're not going to let that shell sing a little, but that's just me. Anyway, definitely give this a try if you use moon gels on a regular basis. Works as well but much more flexibility and versatility, and cleaner looking.

Very effective dampening
I use this on my Supraphonic and it provides a good amount of dampening. Definitely does not over muffle the drum. It provides the flexibility to adjust the amount of dampening. Low profile appearance. I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on my snare drum sound since adding this.

Dear Snareweight
I really like your products, I have three M80’s for my snares and larger toms. I have two M1b’s for my smaller toms. They make my drums sound better, dampening just the right amount of overtones while still allowing the drums to sound natural. But I needed a white m1b for my orchestral snare. I ordered a M1b White and received a black one. See photos. Current rating 5 stars minus 3 stars for mislabeling package = 2 stars. Pros: o M1b good size for smaller toms o M1b good size for orchestral snares (where some overtones are needed) o M80 good size for snares and larger toms o Dampens just enough overtones to keep drums sounding natural o Better than Evans E-Ring and Aquarian Studio Rings (these are pretty good at removing overtones but deadens some drums too much) o Better than Moon Gel – which can get messy but works if that’s all you got, good for some situations where location/placement is important o Black Gaffer tape (I like) – is good overall at keeping drums sounding natural and reducing overtones, but Snareweight is a more user friendly / elegant solution Cons: o Pricey if you need a bunch o Sometimes package mislabeled (color) – see photos o Grain and quality of leather can vary (may get one with stiffer leather, may get one with softer leather) Currently using Snareweight on: Yamaha Recording Custom 5 piece - Birch Ludwig LM402 Supraphonic Snare Drum - 14x6.5 Aluminum Pearl Philharmonic Concert Snare - 14x5 Maple

Work very well but quite expensive
I do not understand why for something this simple, the price is what it is. But it does work well.

Just love these for various levels of dampening. Easy to use, adjustable. Love this company.

Bought to damp my rather lively snare. When it arrived it is apparent that it is a week made often that will last. It clips onto the rim of the snare and damps the surface of the snare. The sides fold up if desired, held in place by magnets to reduce the damping effect. I did notice that it has less damping effect that I expected. Nice on my floor Tom, but a bit more needed on my snare. I combined it with moongel to get the sound I wanted. Perhaps the larger one would be better for snares.
