This is a great tool to sort out what type(s) of USB cables one has. It allows a quick separation of charging only, USB 2.0, 2B, and USB 3+. Technically it has lightning though this was not tested. Super easy to figure out the display LEDs and eliminated the "oops" of not having the right purposed function. A good investment for persons with many undocumented cables. The documentation is not robust, but the core functions (USB level, whether the cable has a secondary ground) are easy to track. For USB 3+ it will show wiring but not the wattage (e.g., 60w, 120w, 240w) or the max data transmission rates though with the industry standards that should be stamped on the plug. Net net, it was simple to sort out the cables that were power only vs. able to transmit data which ended confusion why some cables would "work" and others would not. Definitely something handy to have on hand.

I found it a little hard to use, mainly because it does a lot of things. It can use an internal battery as well as external power.

I never understood fully the difference between USB cables until I got this tiny and cool device. It dramatically shows the difference between Thunderbolt, USB-3, USB-2, Lightning, and power-only cables. Understanding the internals inspired me to buy Thunderbolt 3 and 4 cables only, which are more expensive but last longer and work for everything, and end up actually cheaper than constantly messing around with lesser spec cables. (Note: It does not identify the specific type of cable but some online searching will give the information easily. Suggestion: Add some documentation that explains what each of the connections do.) I highly recommend this device.

Ever run into connectivity problems or slow charging speeds? This is a great tool to see whether or not the cable is flaking out. As a continuous continuity tester, you can reposition the cable and clearly see if you have an intermittent connection present. The sockets on this device are a bit snug, but that's probably a bit by design, as one aspect is to check for a sloppy connector on the cable. The unit is self-powered by a CR2032 coin cell battery, but can also be powered through an additional USB-C connection if you happen to be neglectful with the battery. Note that the battery is not rechargeable. If you really want to take a deeper dive into the cable, there are also recessed test pads that can be reached with a meter test probe. Truly a compact, handy tool for basic diagnosis at an affordable price.
