Moisture/water alarm
These things are great & loud enough to hear even from the basement. I put these all over the basement & in my furnace hot water closet. This thing gives you enough time to get to the problem & shut the source off before to much damage happens. They are so sensitive that it picks up the moisture in your fingers when to touch the contacts & the sensor detaches with a long wire so you can leave the sensor downstairs & mount the alarm in a closet upstairs for even more protection. Runs on a 9v battery & i change them out once a year. Cheap protection for the price

Better than expected
It didnt have all the small tweakable things about it like another one I bought at the same time, but it is far sturdier built and I like the design better. I used this one in my basement, as I trust it a little more and it is very loud. The other I have under my sink. It's easy to use. It tested very well with water. It's small size and long lasting battery life made it nice and easy to use with little stress needed for a while.

Works perfectly, essential around the house
[Update 9/10/2016]Since the 4 years I've placed these around the house:1. 8/2016: the one surrounding the basement hot water heater alerted just the day before a week-long vacation. The 9 year old water heater had to be replaced, and could've caused massive water damage in the basement storage.2. 4/2016: the one under the kitchen sink alerted to leaking hot water pipe. The plumber replaced the valve, and the sink faucet itself also had to be replaced.3. 2/2016: the one in the right sump pit alerted to high water from electric sump pump failure.4. 2013: the one behind the GE wsahing machine alerted to water spilling over the tub onto the floor when in "super large" load mode. No issues since using only "large" setting at most. The price has seemed apparently risen to ~$12, but they've already saved me hundreds, if not thousands, in water damage and grief.---[Original 2012 Review]Upon my home inspector's recommendation, I researched and bought various types of water detectors. Aside from Honeywell RWD41 Water Defense Water Sensing Alarm, which I also have and is prefect for perimeter water detection (e.g., around a water boiler, laundry, etc.), this is the perfect water alarm.I have 10 of Glentronics GWD-HWA--for various bathroom/kitchen sinks, sump pumps, a/c units, etc. These take 9V batteries like Energizer LA522SBP 9V Lithium Battery for Smoke Detectors, which last much longer and are more convenient to test & replace (slide vs screw cover) than "Froggie" 3x AAA types. This also has a detachable sensor that can be dangled over a deep sump pump pit or into dubious crevices. There have been no false alarms for the 10 alarms in 1 year, other than one had water splashed so vehemently into a sump pit that it had splashed onto the sensor (which was really legitimate). As you can see from the picture, the 2 metal contacts on the detachable plate must come in contact to sound the alarm (putting a finger on each electrode will also "test" it, since your body conducts the electricity).Seriously, this is less than $10 and will alert you of a potential liquified doom of your home. How much would a plumber cost to fix it instead?

Works as described, battery not included
Purchased because my neighbors have two. Both our basements flooded last weekend and they had the alarm we didn’t. When a storm knocked out our power the sump pump was turned off. They heard the alarm and were able to start bailing water out. I had two inches of water in my basement. 4 stars as it could be louder. I will here it on the first floor but definitely not on the second.

Perfect alarm. Loud. Easy to use.
I’ve been using for a month in the basement of a large home. Bought it for the sump pump area but first used it due to a toilet randomly leaking. Alarm was loud enough to hear it upstairs. Great product.

Shame on me. But thank you, Watchdog!
My home was built in 2000. Unfortunately, the builder used the cheapest plumbing materials they could get. As a result, I experienced an extensive water damage event in 2003. After my home was repaired, I wanted to do something to help protect myself from future issues. So, I got several of these Watchdog Water Alarms and placed them in key locations like the bathrooms, the laundry room, and the kitchen. I've added additional alarms over the years to cover every potential leak spot I could think of. I now have 14 of these alarms in my home.Well... This week, they paid for themselves!I was in my home office, on a conference call, and I heard an unfamiliar noise. I ignored it for a couple of minutes but eventually excused myself from the call so that I could investigate the noise. Within another few minutes, I had tracked it down to the kitchen, then to the cabinet under the sink. When I opened the cabinet doors, the problem was clearly evident. The supply shut off valve to the faucet was spraying a small stream of water. The bottom of the cabinet was wet, but nothing that I couldn't mop up with a few towels. The only casualty was a box of dishwasher detergent. Other than that, there was no harm done thanks to the alarm. Without the alarm, there's no telling how long the leak would have gone or how much damage would have been done. Now that is great, but something else about these alarms amazed me. Having the alarm trigger reminded me that I couldn't remember the last time I had changed the battery. So I picked up every alarm and checked them. The battery in the alarm that triggered had a shelf date of 2011 -- That's 14 years ago! And that means that I hadn't changed the battery since at least 2011. --Shame on me. But the alarm still did its job!As I changed the batteries in all of the alarms, I tested them by placing them on a damp paper towel. Every one of them sounded the alarm. Even the one with a battery dated 2008 (17 years ago). --Double shame on me. ;-) --I've learned my lesson and set myself a reminder task to change those batteries in a few years. So bottom line, would I recommend the Watchdog Water Alarm to a friend? ABSOLUTELY! And without hesitation!
