Dressmaking: The Complete Step-by-Step Guide to Making your Own Clothes

I just received this book and was sooo excited to finally get it. It has very detailed pictures and patterns in the back to enlarge and copy. However... I was hoping it would show how to make your OWN patterns. It shows how to make your own clothes as the book states and how to adjust ready made patterns. I am happy I bought it though, it has a lot of very good information. I woul recommend this book to anyone who is just starting to sew or someone who is looking to learn more.

I love this book and if you sew, you can never have to much information. this helps me be a better sewer. All the information is useful no matter what level you are at.

I purchased this book to expand my sewing library, and I was very happy with the product I received and the condition and speed in which it arrived. Alison Smith produces well illustrated, well written reference guides for seamstresses, and this edition did not disappoint. It seems to follow a more introductory style of teaching aimed at a beginner, covering basic sewing notions, fabrics, and tools, and introducing basic and intermediate level techniques through the use of apparel projects with included patterns. Her Sewing Book does utilize the same style, as does the Readers Digest Sewing book, Martha Stewart's, Tilly and the Buttons', May Martin's book. This is probably one of the best of the overall sewing books of the ones listed, but if you are looking for more detailed instructions and more techniques, I would recommend her Sewing Book instead. If you are an advanced sewer, or if you can look at a pattern and figure out how the garment would come together without reading the instructions, and you are comfortable with most fastener types, you probably won't learn a whole lot of new techniques here. But the book is beatiful, the pages feel nice and are of high quality, and if you just enjoy reading books about sewing you might really enjoy this one as well- I know I do.

Fantastic! It goes great with her online Craftsy class "Couture Dressmaking Techniques" and "Couture Finishing Techniques". Alison Smith is a lovely teacher, very down to earth and easy to follow in class and in her books. Lots of illustrations and clear instructions!

I gave this book 5 stars because it is full of ideas, instruction and is a large book for the price. I would recommend this to anyone trying to learn a sewing skill.

I enjoyed this book...it's very helpful. i'v already made 3 skirts. the only problem i did have was with the website and dowloading the partterns. you had to go to BK and ask to be unlocked for the patterns
