The Clock Strikes Midnight
This has almost immediately become one of my personal favorite Batman stories. It has almost all my favorite comic book things in it so it may not appeal to everyone. Its got cool gothic art great action scenes cool horror inspired moments and the introduction of a worthy new Batman foe in the form of Midnight. If you've read Batman Red Rain or its sequels you will like this book. Its hard to find but worth every penny

An entertaining story with stylized artwork
I was constantly entertained by this trade paperback. The story is not incredibly original, but breezes along at a decent pace that does produce a few moments of true surprise. Certain elements of the story are handled poorly, such as Batman's "romance" with a certain character. A plethora of villains appear, though some of the characterization does not really ring true. Niles does appear to have an excellent grasp of Batman and his history. I am a moderate fan of Kelley Jones's art style, and he clearly was born to draw Batman, but some of the artwork I found lacking at times. It was fine when depicting the costumed characters, but the level of detail was suspect on more traditional characters like Commissioner Gordon and Bruce Wayne.DC has included the entire series in this trade paperback. The quality of the reproduction is quite good and includes a few character sketches as a bonus. The plotting could have been tighter, but overall this is a fun, traditional Batman story that does not heavily rely on continuity. It would have been interesting to see someone like Neal Adams illustrate this series. While Jones's art style was suited to the tone of the story and characters for the most part, I got the impression that Niles wrote this particular Batman as a throwback to an earlier era. Overall it is a good read that introduces another colorful villain into the Batman mythos, Midnight.

aweful writing..
This is one sorry batman tale even though the art is excellent and the story is loaded with interesting rogues. The problem is the writer has no comprehension of how Batman thinks or acts. He also has the same lack of intrinsic insight into Jim Gordon, the Joker and just about any other character in the Gotham universe. Worse yet, the writer seems to suffer from a serious attention deficit disorder. The confrontations and interactions between characters are short and superficial and the general plot line is weak and juvenile. In short, the comic just stinks and you would do well to read a Batman story penned by a writer who can articulate the dark knight and his universe with skill and expertise.

INSANELY COOL BATMOBILE
Kelley Jones is an acquired taste-like caviar. He is an artist in the true sense of the word. You can spend days just studying and being mesmerized by each and every page. Extreme creative flair with a great gothic/retro look.

It was okay.
This was entertaining. But not as good as "The Dark Knight Returns" or "Gotham by Gaslight".

Not The Book's Fault, Problem With Seller
I received this book a week early and was extremely excited. Unfortunately, despite the product description and a sticker on the back that said 'Used-Like New,' the book had some torn pages and others that were crinkled, as well as some shelf wear along the edges of the cover. I will certainly be reconsidering buying from this seller again. The book itself is fine, a little Silver Age cheese that I was surprised to see in so recent a title, but the Rogue's Gallery is quite impressive. The art isn't the greatest I've ever seen, but props for the creative use of color to convey effect.

A very good graphic novel and a nice Batman story
There’s a new player in Gotham, and he is using some of Batman’s old nemeses in ways that surprise even the Dark Knight. This new player goes by the name of Midnight, and he is determined to go places that Batman never would. Can Batman bring Midnight to justice? And, just what will it cost the Caped Crusader? Perhaps more than even he can imagine!Overall, I found this to be a pretty good graphic novel. The story is very interesting, as you watch Batman go through the paces of finding out just what is going on, and finding out what he can do about it. There’s a lot of great action, as Batman fights the Scarecrow, the Axe-Man, Clayface, the Joker, and a host of others. What keeps this graphic novel from being truly great is the quality of the illustration work. It’s done in a rather offbeat style, which makes from some interesting images. However, when the action is cooled off, the artwork makes the people look odd and deformed. I really do not think that it works. But, that said, it still is a very good graphic novel, and a nice Batman story. I liked it!
