The spark plug in my 25-year-old engine was sooty. The choke linkage worked right. The float level was right. The carburetor air passages seemed clear. I drove the mower 200 yards without the air filter and didn't notice a difference.I replaced the filter without proof. Then I thought of a good test. Kohler recommends setting the governor for 3600 rpm. Mine had been set lower. I'd used an optical tachometer to adjust the full-throttle idle to 3540. With the new filter, it idles at 3660 in spite of the governor.The new filter will make a bigger difference with the engine under a load to mow. It does seem to mow better. The next time I wonder if my filter is OK, I'll check the high idle with and without it.Now I see that Harbot offers various packages for these engines. I wish I'd ordered one that included an oil filter even if I won't need one soon.

Fits my JD lt155 with 15hp Kohler command perfect. Haven’t used the spark plug yet but I’m sure it’ll be fine as a backup.
