Q: Why did my last batch had little beads in it. I love this product when it's nice and smooth. What gives?

Yep, that's happened to me. Somewhere the package got hot and melted. I just put the tin in a bowl of hot water, let the balm melt, shake it up, and then let it cool. It'll be nice and smooth again.

Q: What is the consistency of this beard balm? Is it relatively easy & quick to apply?

After reading the additional answers, I'd say the consistency is more like butter than peanut butter; thin and applies quickly. It's pretty much an oil after you rub it in your palm for a second or two. I like the balm because it's easier to gauge the amount I want to use vs. oil. After application I use the remaining oil in my hair and it works great!

I use both. The oil helps In softening the beard and help reduce itch during growth. I use the balm to help shape and hold the beard.
