The best book on learning xcode around, bar none!
Let me begin by saying that I have zero coding experience with xcode. I had been making many a false start with the very basics of even knowing where to begin let alone how I would ever remember anything I would learn from what I could find on YouTube or random websites .I often have a hard time motivating myself to start learning and find myself easily discouraged when I get myself in a bind with nowhere to turn. Then one day I decided to search amazon.com on my Ipad mini for all of the eBooks related to xcode for a beginner like me. I came across many but when I would read the sample pages, I would be lost within the first few pages. Then I found "Beginning Xcode" by Matthew Knott. I read all of the sample pages in one sitting and as soon as payday arrived, I immediately ordered the book and had it shipped asap. For me personally, I do much better with a hard copy then an eBook as I tend to make a lot of notes. Once it arrived, I started devouring it, page by page until I realized I had just spent a few hours in one sitting. I couldn't get enough. The book is written in a way that's easy to understand no matter how little programming experience you have. Its also great for experienced developers as it doesn't talk down to you or make you feel as if you reading below your level of understanding. I am a little more than halfway through it and I worry that I wont find another book as well written as this to continue on my learning path. This should be mandatory reading for anyone who has the desire to learn xcode but doesn't know how or where to begin. I would give it 10 stars if I could!!BTW..I have recently spent the money to become an IOS apple developer. Not that I expect to have an app in the app store anytime soon, but just as a way to get my hands on extra learning material and pre release betas. I would have never had the confidence had it not been for this book.

Where is ALL the completed code?
I love those book! It has a lot of information, but I wish it would give the completed code so you can compare your own code. Right now I am working on chapter 7 and I am getting error messages I am not sure if I have something in the wrong or it the code it place out of order or what. So it would be nice to have the complete code for all the chapters and not just a few!

Not useful
It must have been written for an older version of Xcode. Show Object Library command did not do what was expected, and so on...

BUY IT! This book is THE one to get to learn Xcode. Absolutely the best tutor book on Xcode 5.1
If you are learning to be an iOS developer to write apps for iPhone and iPad and iPod, then you will need to learn Objective C and Xcode. I have sampled all the current books and THIS book by Matthew Knott is THE book of choice to learn Xcode. I have never done a review before, hey my time is expensive. But the level of effort that Matthew has gone to in this work has elicited this response from me.I don't really have time to go on and explain all my reasons, just trust me: this book is CURRENT, it is CLEAR, it has the effect of actually TEACHING YOU TO USE XCODE and it also ties in the convoluted way that Objective C and Object Oriented Programming (OOP) all come together to create an actual app.BUY IT and read it with Xcode open following along as you learn. The point: this book will teach you what you need to know and it does so very very well. Destined to be a CORE iOS textbook.I'm hoping Matthew Knott will expand his teachings into YouTube as well, avoiding the paid tutor websites, to provide a full service in teaching. So, Big Nerd Ranch for Objective C, Beginning Xcode for Xcode and you are so away! This is really one of those purchases that are worth way more than the cash paid.Review from sunny South Africa!

FAR TOO OLD.
This book needs a major update, or Amazon needs to quit selling it. Heck just looking at the publication date should have told all these reviewers who write “this book must be foe an earlier version. . . “ kind of reviews

Ultimately, front and center on my book shelf
After reading and applying some of the examples, I can say this book is an essential tool in my toolbox. A "go to" kinda book. I've pulled this book off the shelf many times to answer those little "how to" questions we get from time to time. Chapters 14 (end) and 15 on "App Submission" alone are worth the price, by far. The book jumps around a bit in earlier chapters, but it's a good "step by step" reference.

iOS top heavy
My initial impression is that it's iOS top heavy. I won't say much more. If you're looking to learn Mac programming, this probably isn't your best choice. I admit my star rating may be a bit mean if it's iOS you're interested in. I will try again to "get into" the book and edit if appropriate.
