Probably the best compilation of Aretha's early Atlantic Recordings
I largely agree with reviews like Wheldrake's that this is a great compilation of Aretha's early Atlantic output - what most lovers of her music would consider her golden era. I would also add that if this collection has the tracks that you want, then you can buy with confidence as this release has high quality re-mastered sound, unlike some of the other early compilations which can sound dull in comparison. The only additional tracks that l really want that aren't included here are album tracks from her superb 1967 release 'l Never Loved A Man The Way l Love You' also available in re-mastered format on cd, and also included in the 5 disc 'Original Albums' series which come in cardboard cases, and which you can get on Amazon for about a tenner.Although admittedly duplicating some of the tracks on this particular 'Queen of Soul' album, l also acquired 'l Never Loved A Man...' for such stand out tracks as 'Drown ln My Own Tears','A Change Is Gonna Come' and 'Good Times'.As an alternative anthology to 'Queen of Soul', if you also enjoy some of Aretha's pop covers, and her 1980's duet hits, you could consider the double cd 'Respect, The Very Best Of' - currently available very cheaply on Amazon and also boasting excellent sound quality. From the selections quoted above you should be able to find what suits you best from this great singer's output.

She really is ...
Bought this compilation on the recommendation of others as it covers the late 60s and early 70s when she was at her peak. How right they are: it's packed full of classics, and a few lesser known gems (lesser known to me anyway). I hadn't heard her cover of Elton John's Border Song, for example; and I love the jazziness of her own Day Dreaming. The sheer range, power and control in her voice is quite dizzying, and there is always that sweet soulfulness to it. One of the absolute greats.

Can’t go wrong with Aretha!
I bought this to replace a previously damaged copy.

The First Lady of Soul
This has all of Aretha's greatest hits and some lesser known stuff which is well worth hearing. I particularly commend the Steve Cropper/Don Covay song "See Saw"
