THANKFULLY Purple one does NOT have the rubberized backing! Thank goodness🙏🏼
The purple weave is beautiful!! I’m so lucky that the one that I ordered not have the rubberized backing that is said to be sticky and stinky. I failed to read the description and didn’t scroll through the pictures. I only read through the comments AFTER it arrived and saw that a few people received a rubberized side that is sticky and stinky. How sad! When quickly finding this May on Amazon, I only saw the organic cotton description and the price was right. So in the cart in went.I would have been so disappointed if it smelled and was sticky. The cotton yoga mat I have is so perfect and I love it. It’s thick and feels of high quality. Does not smell at all!!And both sides feel the same. It’s soft for a woven mat.

Smells bad & sticky!
I was so excited to get an organic cotton yoga mat as I’m sensitive to chemicals. When I received the mat I was instantly hit with a chemical mildewy smell. I washed it on delicate and then left it in the sun all day but sadly it still smells. It also has a sticky substance on one side that is like beeswax or something. It took several hand washes with dish soap to get off my hands. Sadly I would not recommend this product and will be donating it.

excellent alternative to plastic
i needed to replace my old yoga mat, which rats ate holes in when it was stored in the garage... i trimmed the eaten bits, but was left with something a bit too short for my workout, though good size for the beach!i wanted to get a replacement mat that was not made from plastic, but options were limited. cork was interesting, but still backed with plastic...i found this mat and decided to give it a shot. after my first workout on it, i am very pleased with my purchase so far!what i like: 100% cotton, thick sturdy weave (similar to my rug under it actually!), feels durable, bright colors, stays put while i move, grippy texture.what i don't like: smells a little musty (but i'm sure that'll air out if i put it in the sun for a couple hours), a little rough on the hands (just not as plush as plastic mats, but it's fine), and lastly unsure what the coating on the base is (the coating under the mat is very effective at keeping the mat in place while you workout, on carpet or on the hard floor, but i wish i knew what it was.. is it plastic? glue? it's got an almost waxy texture, i hope it's natural and not micro plastics but i'm not certain - any info from the manufacturer would be great!)anyway i think this is an awesome mat for someone that wants to avoid plastic, it looks great and always nice to be a little more earth friendly. it's not as soft as foam mats, but it's fine (esp if you are using it on carpet).

high quality, a little scratchy
this yoga mat is beautiful! I get tons of compliments on it. I use it primarily in heated yoga studios, and the first time I didn't put a towel down over it and ended up with rug burn on the tops of my feet and my elbows from dolphin pose... putting a mat towel over it fixes that problem though. I used it at an outdoor yoga festival and didn't have any issue with the rug burn, so maybe it's just the heated studio and extra sweat that causes it. the mat is a bit heavier than I thought, which is great for quality and comfort, but not as great for a travel mat. I'll still probably try to find room in my suitcase for it thought because I love it!

Terrific mat ruined by "rubberized" coating that smells like tires
This mat is exactly what I was looking for, which makes the offensive "rubber" coating even more offensive. When I bought this, I was going by the organic "100% cotton" description. I thought that was all it was, and I accepted that it might be slippy and I might need to combine it with something else underneath. When I first opened it and noticed a smell, I went back to the listing and found where in the Q&A section someone mentions a "rubberized coating." I loved the mat, so I was hopeful the smell would air out. I left it unrolled on my covered side porch where it got sun and wind for a SOLID WEEK. Still smells. I have used it since then twice at a yoga class, and I love the weight of it and the texture of it, how it unrolls, how it sits on the floor. What I do NOT love is when I am on the floor trying to breathe into a position and it smells like I am in a tire store. I also do not love the sticky sensation on my hands when rolling it back up or how my hands then smell like tires. This is a bit of a tangent, but I also find it highly offensive that on children's playgrounds shredded tires are sometimes used as mulch, so that the children have to run around breathing that instead of fresh air. That smell seems pretty similar to this mat's smell. Yoga (and play time) plus toxic tire smells is a horrible combination. Somebody make it stop. I would love to see this exact same mat without any coating. (I'll sign a waiver when I buy it if that would help.) Or, if you have to put a coating on it, try to find something more inert so that the smell is not so strong and long lasting. Thank you & best wishes to all. Maybe we can figure out how to make our world less toxic someday, somehow.

One side is "gooey" - DEFINITELY NOT ORGANIC
I bought this to replace a similar mat that I loved. Unfortunately this new mat has some gooey glue residue on one side. The mat came rolled around a purple plastic liner/protector that may be the culprit. Regardless there is this nasty gooey residue on the mat. Will try throwing it in the washing machine and hopefully it will be resolved. Otherwise a good looking mat.UPDATE: This rug has been through 4 machine washing cycles and while most of the gooey.gluey residue has come off (most not all) this rug just reeks of some type of chemical. Think Harbor Freight. Totally disappointed as it seems impossible to find a thick cotton yoga rug. There is nothing organic or yogic about this rug.

Very Strong Chemical Smell
This mat unfortunately has such an intensely strong chemical smell that does not air or wash out. I can smell it throughout my whole house and that really bums me out. I really wanted to like this, but I’ll tell ya, if smell doesn’t bother you, go down to the local feed supply store and get a horse blanket. Same creosote/railroad tie chemicals infused in this guy as a horse blanket, but a horse blanket only costs about $9.00.
