I switched over to this old school magnetic stud finder. I'll never go back to the electric wall scan styles. This is quick and accurate. I love that I can leave it up on the screw it found and mark what I need to. So much easier.

This was much smaller than I expected and I worried it wouldn't work but it was great! Doesn't take up too much room in my toolbox and is functional. I needed it for one specific job so I didn't want to invest in a more expensive one and this was perfect.

I have a reliable battery operated stud finder but also wanted a more compact and battery-less one to use on thick walls or to double check walls with inconsistent framing. My father had one from the early 80s that used to pivot and had notches for marking off the where a screw was found, but I couldn't remember the brand and haven't found the identical model. I'm building out a closet from a closet kit where the closet wall is shared with the laundry machine, dryer, electrical and plumbing and wanted to be sure that what was detected as a stud was in fact a singular object such as a screw head and not something else like a copper or ABS drain pipe. Having two stud finders helped me to easily determine the distance between studs without making any marks on the wall (I usually use painters tape and mark on the tape). I found the magnet to be very strong but have not tried it on plaster or other non-drywall surface. I also found the level to be useful to vertically line up the framing. I looked at a few other magnetic stud finders and even possibly 3D printing my own, but ultimately chose this 2-pack for the built-in bubble level and notches for accurately marking the detected screw/nail head. I also have a few other Klein tools (e.g. Scout Pro for ethernet/coax cable testing, non-contact voltage tester, tone generator and tracer) that have worked well for me so this seemed like a safe bet. For me, this stud finder is the best and most compact solution.
