Q: is this a coarse cornmeal suitable for making grits?

If, by "grits", you are referring to the grits one finds on menus in the USA, the answer is ... absolutely not. That eaten in the USA with eggs, bacon and etcetera is called hominy grits. Not at all the same stuff. Look on the Indian Head website for recipes utilising the yellow corn meal. In fact, if my memory serves me well, there's a recipe on the bag itself. But far more on their website.

No. Only allergen warning is "may contain traces of wheat and soy". Hope this helps.
