Both jacks are wired in parallel to 1 line.
Not what I had expected and not worth returning. I needed a dual surface jack with each jack being independent, ie: two lines. This unit has both jacks parallel wired so you can plug two items into 1 phone line. Seems well built just not what I needed and the description didn't help me much.
