That depends on the transmission you have. If its a ZF then maybe so. BMW pays their engineers a lot of money on efficiency/performance testing. I would use the owners manual to determine what is the best transmission fluid to use. (IMO) Once you start "trial and error" testing on your personal vehicle you're asking for trouble, unless its a vehicle you don't depend on as a daily driver.

Is this the same fluid that fca uses in the ram 1500 equipped with the zf 8hp70 transmission?

Yes I have a ram 1500 with an 8 speed transmission. I just serviced my trans about 3 weeks ago and it's works great. Yes you can use the life guard fluid 8.
