We own, and have owned, a number of the Alligator-style onion choppers. And this one is the best we have ever had. Why? For one thing, the plastic screen makes it easier to clean than all the others. The screen pulls up all the chopping debris, leaving the array of knobs completely clean. After the screen dries off, it's easy to replace. Another great thing is that this tool also has a special section to finely dice garlic. Our garlic presses are annoying because scraps of garlic get pushed into the corners, being wasteful and also hard to clean. This one simply dices the garlic instead, in a very uniform and repeatable way. And of course the garlic cutter cleans just as easily as the onion chopper section.Some reviews suggest that people want to put some thick piece of onion on the chopper and muscle the cover closed. That is not how this tool works. It wants a slice of onion, around ¼" thick, a slice that fits entirely inside the cutting window. This tool will dice such a slice perfectly. But you still have to clean and slice the onion. If that's too much trouble for you, just chop the onion manually and don't try to short-cut the process by mis-using what is otherwise an excellently designed and useful tool. And don't try to cut other stuff, either. It's perfect for onion and garlic (and shallots) and should only be used for those veggies.

this is my second chopper purchased...I bought it for a friend. I have mine for about 7 years maybe. You clean it easily and what little sticks to the blades, use a tooth pick or skewer--be careful because the blades are sharp. It works best when the vegetable isn't thick, so slice your carrots in half before chopping...but you get perfect squares that will either saute evenly or be gorgeous in a salad. AND, you can take out your aggressions when you slap it down. It makes chopping go so quickly and it all looks great. It's a wonderful tool.

I admit I did not read the product dimensions but this thing is huge! Works great but takes up a lot of space.

This onion chopper is a must in our kitchen for making pico de gallo. I have purchased 2 (or3?) others over the past several years and they all broke in the same spot within a year, and yet I still replaced them. However, this one is designed so much better. The bottom part does not get the same amount of stress as you lower the lid, and I think this one will last much longer. It’s not the easiest thing to clean but the cleaning tool works pretty well. It just makes the perfect-sized diced onions, tomatoes, and jalapeños.

Chopping onions used to bring me to tears. Now I throw a chunk down on the sturdy unit and voilà! My prep time is cut in half. Also a great way to mince garlic in a jiffy. Get one today!

I only used this once because it was too difficult to clean. I sent it back.

I bought this in late October, and used it maybe half a dozen times for chopping up big batches of onions, peppers, etc to freeze. It worked brilliantly for a while, and I love the removable silicon strip to help clean out the grooves on the top part. Unfortunately, a mere two months later, and the metal 'grid' on the middle blade section warped out of square, which means it won't close or chop. The blades do not appear to be replaceable, so it's basically garbage now. I'll have to find an alternative, which is too bad, because this one was otherwise perfect.

Chops onions, garlic, carrots, and semi firm tomatoes well. However, small pieces such as onions must be cut in quarters, otherwise whole pieces of onions tend to jam with the top layer of the blades. Takes time to clean even with the plastic fork-like tool provided. Allow a few minutes to get the onions wedged out of the blades. Overall, a time saver if you have a few items to chop ..... and best of all, is that the onions don’t tear up your eyes.
