Q: Are there replacement soldering tips available? Or are these compatible with some kind of standard soldering tip?

These tips are USELESS! I only did a couple of soldering joins and the tip is already destroyed (the finest pointed one). I'm going to get a refund on this and buy a better quality soldering iron kit

Q: Lexivon: do you have specific brands of butane that you have tested and recommend? searching for triple-refined butane doesn't show many options.

I use both Ronson and Zipo fuel. I picked up a 290ml bottle of Ronson fuel in the plumbing section of my local hardware store. They indicated it was for torches such as the Lexivon.

Q: does this have variable heat settings?

Yes it has a slider to adjust heat as well as a hold flame. This tool is awesone with all the accessories. I use it to solder everything from my car to my cell phone logicboard

Q: Torch works. Why does catalyst head not?

Could be the butane quality. I've had the same issue and replaced the gas with a high quality butane gas like the 'Vector' which is filtered 14x and worked like a charm. Good luck
