Odyson - All-in-One Cable Replacement for Apple Thunderbolt Display 27" A1407 (MC914LL/A, MC914LL/B)

My old cable had cracked at the point where the mag safe and thunderbolt cables separated. I had noted an intermittently pixelated screen, then the Apply 27” Thunderbolt Display went black a few months later. That’s when I found the problem with the cable. Instruction on iFixit.com made it possible, as there are many steps to getting this replacement done. The display once again works perfectly. You need the suction cups to start the replacement process and the foam support blocks were a big help. DO pay attention to the comments, as they solved two puzzles for me during the process. I used an ice cube tray to hold all the screws and bits as I dismantled the display. That helped a lot on reassembly. This was the most complex computer repair I have ever done, but it wasn’t that bad with those great instructions. Anyone with patience and a reasonably steady hand can do it. I also used my camping headlamp to really brighten my field of View.

Got a great deal on a thunderbolt display, turns out the cable was only working intermittently (display usually worked fine but no sound or webcam)... This cable plus some ifixit tools I already had, a beer and an hour on a weeknight and bam, perfectly working thunderbolt display! Not sure if these are used cables pulled off dead monitors or snuck out the backdoor of some factory but they seem very close in quality to the original Apple cable which is super cool for sub-$20. I’ll update this review if the thing fails in an unreasonably short amount of time (though I wouldn’t expect it to)

It took time to install with gentle care, however overall great product and almost identical cable as the one that came with the original monitor. Get the right tools, grab a friend to help that is knowledgeable in tech and you'll be able to replace it in no time.

The cord on my Thunderbolt Display was beginning to unravel on the lightning bolt connection side, so I decided to replace it. Although a little time consuming for me as a laymen, iFixit.com had instructions for taking the display apart, and so it was pretty much a breeze for me to replace the old one with this new one.After switching it out, it works like a charm, it's a very sturdy built cable.

It works , brand new , no issues. Great price. It has warranty so don’t remove sticker.

The iFixIt instructions are not hard to follow and you can skip some steps based on commentsNote that the cable will not work if you plug one end to the outside port of the display, like some websites are suggesting - this is where I first made the mistake of returning it and several months later I decided to give it another go by following the complete instructionsI did not need to use the suction cups

Installing this cable into a Thunderbolt Display takes about an hour if you haven’t done it before. Suggest testing the Thunderbolt cable before installing this item. I received one with the Thunderbolt icon on the wrong side of the external connector. It didn’t work. Would have saved a lot of effort if I had tested it first (duh). Had to disassemble the display, remove the defective cable and just install a old Thunderbolt cable to the board inside the display. While I don’t have the laptop power cable and the Thunderbolt cable exits the display without a grommet it works just fine.

It wasn't an easy procedure, but as always, YouTube shows the way. Once I got it installed, the monitor came back to life, and works great! Thanks!
