Light, quiet, quick cooling and a freezer, what else could you ask for?
I just returned from a two week trip to the southwest using this refrigerator, and in fact my first ever 12 volt refrigerator. I'll be honest, I did not know what to expect or how to optimize the unit, but through trial and error I got it figured out. I ordered it with the Iceco magnetic 250wh battery. My setup was to plug the battery into the rear 12 volt outlet in my 4runner and the refer into the battery. I drove for 10 or so hours and then camped until the next morning. The battery LED indicator read 100% every time I stopped. The temps were in the low 70's during the day and high 30's to low 40's at night. So the APL35 was using the battery for over 12 hours each day on eco-mode. I was alone so the unit was never more than half filled. I had frozen items in the freezer for about half the time. The first night, the refer shut down with the battery reading 79% remaining. I then remembered to adjust the APL 35's battery protection feature to low and the battery picked right up again and the refer was operating again. For the remainder of the trip the battery never completely discharged and often had 40% remaining by morning. What I liked:- I was sleeping in the back of my truck with the APL 35 and the unit was amazingly quiet. I could hear it turn on but it was not that annoying.- The freezer allowed me to freeze my dinner meats before hand and keep them frozen until needed. A day in the refer section thawed them out. I did not try ice-cream but...?- It appeared to be surprisingly efficient with the small magnetic battery, I had another 760wh battery along but honestly never needed it. In summer, however, this might be required.- As advertised, it is light, just about as light empty as my Yeti, so it was easy to move around. What I didn't Like:- The temperature settings on the on-board indicator panel or in the app seemed to be optimistic. When set to 36 degrees in the refer section, the temps seemed to be a bit warm, so I had it set to 32 degrees for most of the trip which was fine. The freezer section at 0 degrees kept things frozen solid though.- The indicator panel on the APL 35 is set low on the unit and is difficult to read in sunlight, so I was bending down and shielding the sunlight to read it during the day.Overall, I was quite impressed with the APL 35 and the 250wh magnetic battery. I really like the 5-year warranty on the compressor, the aluminum case (and interior) and the performance. I would most definitely buy this again.
