Excellent form for brain health.
Having been taking this for years, this L-threonate is one of the better versions of magnesium. I have found that taking it in the morning or afternoon is better than the evening for me, but some people report having better experience, taking it in the evening before bed.Either way having tried bisglycinate, citrate, malate and many other forms, this is my choice that I take daily.

Very good
A little google research will turn up a number of articles alleging that 70-80% of Americans are now deficient in magnesium, due to changes in diet (less consumption of leafy green vegetables, etc.) and so-called "corporate farming methods" that have depleted the soil of this essential mineral. There are a number of critical benefits to supplementing with magnesium, which including bone health, by balancing out calcium (there are plenty of studies now showing that calcium can't be absorbed properly without magnesium), moderating heart and blood pressure risks, neurological - improving sleep and concentration, preventing migraines, etc. It's quite a list. I started getting magnesium for our household to address some anxiety and restlessness issues, as well as some muscle cramps, and it _appears_ that the supplements we've used have had the desired effect. You can find the NIH fact sheet on magnesium linked here:http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Magnesium-HealthProfessional/Turning to this supplement: there are various types of magnesium supplements that you can buy, including magnesium oxide (low bioavailability), magnesium sulfate (think Epsom salts), magnesium citrate (decent bioavailability), magnesium bisglycinate (high bioavailability) and magnesiums l-threonate.Of these types, I've used bisglycinate (as in the Viva labs pills and others) because of its high bioavailability and source naturals l-threonate because of its documented neurological benefits in improving brain function. I tend to steer away from others because, despite being less costly, they are also less effective. You get what you pay for, to a degree. I certainly would never consider a magnesium oxide supplement, as in my opinion that's basically a waste of money. The Viva Labs magnesium comes in the form of 240 decently large, but readily swollowable, chelated tablets. They're somewhat larger than the Source Naturals L-Threonate capsules that I'm currently taking, and the Viva Labs tablets are bit harder to get down, but not so large that it's a problem for me. I can't tell the difference when I switch between them, to be honest. That said, when I started taking the Magtein, I found I slept much better and started having some fairly intense dreams - this has continued while taking the Viva Labs magnesium, so I assume the absorbtion is at least somewhat comparable. As far as price - the Magtein is far more expensive then Viva Labs chelated magnesium, although I think it's the cheapest of the L-threonate magnesiums - currently listed at $21.69 for 90 capsules, or 24 cents each. The suggested use is 2 in the am and 1 at night - 3/day or 72 cents a day.Viva Labs is listed at $18.99 for 240 tablets, or approximately 8 cents each. the suggested use is 2 tablets twice a day, for a cost of almost $.32/day.Simply put, the Viva Labs magnesium costs less than half of the Source Naturals L-Threonate magnesium. That doesn't mean it's necessarily the right choice - I think everyone should do a little research and also decide exactly what they are trying to accomplish. Source Naturals L-Threonate might be the right choice to help with memory and neurological issues - Viva labs might be desirable for coronary issues, muscle relaxation, and teeth and bones. Regardless, I suspect both these products work well, albeit possibly to different degrees, and both of these products are worthy of consideration.

I have been taking Magtein for several months. After just a few days, I began to feel this comforting sense of peace and joy. Since I have some genetic issues with absorbing folate, I have been taking numerous supplements for years to treat a number of conditions. Hence, I am already on some of the vitamins and minerals that should be taken with Magnesium. Especially, B6 and D3. Off and on over the years I would take Magnesium to treat restless legs, but it was only sporadic and not l-threonate. Knowing there is a strong family history of dementia, I decided to switch to Magtein in the hopes that it might delay the onset of Alzheimer's. Not for one minute do I believe this will be a miracle cure, but it might be part of a larger arsenal of preventative measures. Regardless, this is now one of the top 5 things I have discovered to improve my daily life with lessened anxiety and heightened clarity of thought and deeper sleep.I recommended this to my adult son and he promptly hijacked my bottle for himself! I am making him pay me back. He has suffered from anxiety for over a decade and cannot tolerate the side effects of numerous anti-anxiety prescriptions. After taking this, he reports his anxiety has lessened a great deal and that his wife is grateful. He also reports that he had been experiencing brain fog and had begun slurring some of his words. Those two things are now better. This is the first medication/supplement he has tried that he has wanted to keep taking other than a multivitamin. We are waiting to see how this affects my mother who is in the middle stages of Alzheimer's. I am hopeful that it will also ease her anxiety and I don't have any unrealistic expectations that it will treat her dementia. But, if it does . . . wouldn't that be great! Alas, anything that will help keep her calm is a good thing. She has had very bad reactions to prescriptions in the past and refuses anything "for her brain." We can open the capsule and mix the powder into her food if she refuses it in pill form. We have only been using this for a week and just one a day, so too early to report.

Actual dosage information
I read in a review below something very very important about dosage. This is important because overdosing is dangerous and the labeling is misleading..."Consumers need to be aware that the 667mg mentioned in the product description refers to the total amount of Magnesium L-Threonate per capsule. However, only about 7.2% of this is pure elemental magnesium, which amounts to approximately 48mg per capsule. The recommended serving size is 3 capsules, providing 144mg of elemental magnesium. This is grossly deceptive in my view."

best for brain
If you’re deficient in mag, consider this version of mag-glycine. this version crosses the blood brain barrier so likely good for a brain boost. per Grak
