KidCo Gates are the Best!
I've installed a number of gates for the last 20 years and KidCo has always been the gate we used. This is our first retractable gate but it also works perfectly. This time installed to keep our dogs out of certain parts of the house. It's hardware mounted so it takes a little more time to install but once I got it in I was impressed with how well it works. We have it extended almost to it's maximum 55" length for our entry hallway. It is easy to open and close and the dogs haven't tried to defeat it so far. Some caution is needed when unlatching with one hand as sometimes it can slip out of your hand and snap all the way to the wall. I like the gate a lot!

Great option for semi-awkward areas
Easy to install and set up. Safe for top of stairs. Most often requires 2 hands to unlatch, but a kid definitely is not able to! Also can be used to block off kids and dogs but allow a cat to fit underneath, when raised up 2 inches from floor.

Nice looking, easy to install, but not necessarily one-handed opening
Definitely a sleeker and less bulky gate than the metal swinging one we’ve had for years. And although it can be opened with one hand, it’s not always easy to do so because of where the latch is so that’s been a bit of an adjustment. Easy to install. Overall, I like it.

Great customer service
Tested a few different gates, and this was by far the highest quality and easiest to install. The customer service from KidCo is also very quick to respond. Would highly recommend.

Was not going to contain a cat
I bought this at a local store hoping to keep my cats apart. Unfortunately, the netting was loose on the bottom and a furball would have been able to scoot under the "gate". Back to the store it goes. This may work fine for a larger pet.

Brand new and didn't work
The lock mechanism to keep it from extending too far didn't work which would've allowed a child to lean against it and fall through and down the stairs... I am glad we decided to not use it and send it back. Be sure to check yours before you put your child at risk.
