I bought this with no reviews on it, and I have to say, I am very impressed with it. I am an amateur backyard astronomer. I was able to see a pair of sunspots with it on my first attempt to view the sun, and it is a fantastic filter so far. The surface is basically a mirror, but lets through a super tiny amount of light, so that you can see the sun. The sun appears as an orange orb, as you would probably expect. My telescope is an Orion SkyQuest Dobsonian XT8 (8 inch aperture), and this filter fits it beautifully (see attached picture, the silver filter on the top of the telescope is the solar filter. It is a friction fit, though it does have some screws, as well as a few felt pads with some sticky adhesive, though I have not yet used the felt pads, I did tighten the thumb screws, and they hold the filter in place quite well.My first viewing of the sun with it (today) I had best results with either a 32mm eyepiece or the stock 25mm eyepiece that came with my telescope, and a 2x barlow lens. It was partially cloudy today, so that was making viewing somewhat difficult, but I was able to see during breaks in the cloud cover, and it was really cool.I was quite excited to see my first sun spots directly with this filter, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a solar filter for an 8 inch telescope.EDIT: August 22nd, 2017I took pictures of the August 21st Eclipse using my telescope and this filter, I was a couple hundred miles outside of the totality zone. It performed beautifully. Was able to see sun spots even during the eclipse.

This arrived needing to be repaired with marker because pinhole areas were letting light in. I would expect to have to do repairs over time but not fresh out of the box! That was disappointing.

Fast shipping, worked fine for the eclipse as well as for viewing sunspot activity. Spectrum folks were VERY nice on the phone when we had a question. Will continue to buy products from them.
