Little Bear (I Can Read - Level 1) : Else H. Minarik, Maurice Sendak: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: A joyous book - This book is a delight to read to very young children, and lovely for them to read themselves later on. The stories are warm and reassuring, whether showing Mother Bear's love for Little Bear, or Little Bear making friends, and even venturing into the world, then coming safely home. The illustrations by Maurice Sendak [Where the Wild things are] are a lovely blend of naturalism and fantasy. Review: Absolutely lovely! - My 3.5y.o loves this book, we read it every bedtime and she knows some sentences even before I read it. The illustrations are great.

I was so pleased to find this
I was so pleased to find this, as I adored it as a child. My 5.5-year-old son is struggling with reading, so I've just read the stories aloud to him at bedtime, but the book would be ideal for a child just learning to read on his or her own. The language is simple and the stories short, but the book is still engaging enough for parents to read aloud, and both my son and my 3.5-year-old daughter love it.

Beautifully simple and warming
This book was oddly charming. So simple yet my children loved listening to me read it to them. I think my 9 year old felt a bit baffled as to why he enjoyed listening to it. He's quite advanced for his age and so are his choices of books but found this oddly captivating lool. It's been a delight to read to them!

Delightful for sharing with young children
I loved this book when my own children were small, so I bought it for my grandson. Children will enjoy the simple text and clear pictures, while adults will recognise the character of little bear and the frustrations of his mother.

Delightful
This lovely, simple story has plenty of the rhythmic repetition that children love - whether as a listening story, as my children loved this, or more prosaically as a learning-to-read book. The quizzical illustrations are a perfect delight, the tone just right and without the 'clever' adult patronising with which so much British children's literature is blighted...

...wish I'd written these..
Our 6 children loved 'Little Bear' over 30 years ago and their children are similarly delighted with these deceptively simple, direct, warm and lovely tales...like being wrapped in a cuddly woolly blanket. The beautiful illustrations perfectly complement the text and the stories (in individual books when our children were introduced to them) were the ones the children always wanted to come back to...night after night after night....
