Just got it few days ago , and even after washing and lightly scrubbing several times , is it normal to have a residue come of it?

The Residue is Aluminium Dust and will always accumulate. Scrub your set thoroughly with Fine Grade Wire Wool or Brass Wool for a Shiny Polished Finish. Be sure to Wash and Rinse thoroughly. Aluminium is considered a Toxin at high doses, but you are at absolutely no risk if you keep your set Clean.

Could I cook sausages in this?

One can fry Eggs, Sausages, Tomatoes, Bacon etc. The Tins are quite thin and are prone to burning food without constant attention. Soups, Rice, Pasta, stews etc. are equally vulnerable. Practice cooking at home with your Tins. The Tins are difficult to keep clean. May I recommend carrying Brillo Pads or Wire Wool for cleaning on-the-go.

Do these tins nest inside each other?

Yes, and the handle of the larger folds over the smaller when it is sat inside.
