Wonderful and compact little scanner.
This item is a small and compact but fast scanner. It is small enough to fit neatly on your desk and powerful enough to handle large volumes. It is quite and can do double sided or single sided scanning. The equivalent new model is slightly larger and retails around £700 so this is a bargain.

Canon DR 2580C
This is the second Canon scanner we have purchased. The compact size and sheet feeding is very convenient for scanning multiple documents at a work station. The only drawback is a few misfeeds likely due to having to pull documents into the scanner from the desktip rather than vertically. However this infrequent problem does not effect our overall satisfaction with this scanner.

Best Ever
I had previously purchased a Japanese standup, gravity scanner, and it would not work correctly with Windows 97. I ordered the Cannon DR-2580-C. When it arrived, I called Canon and told them I was not going to pay $700+ for a machine so small and, I thought useless. The representative told me to use it a week or two and if I didn't like it, she would send me my money back and add $50 + shipping. She called in three weeks and talked to me about the scanner. I told her that I was going to replace my other scanner with the 2580.My use of this scanner is to scan in IRS documents to a data file. With the old scanner, I had to scan the even pages and then the odd pages. With this scanner the DR-2580, I scan in duplex, both sides at once. It scans at 25 pages a minute. A jewel. It scans in color, it cooks my bacon and eggs, sorry, got carried away. The only thing I will add, besides this scanner is great, I replace the two roller units, a 1 minute activity, each year because I scann so many documents.Buy this scanner.

Not Happy
The feed on the product does not work properly. When a stack of documents is placed on the scanner it will try to pull all or several of the documents. WE have made several adjustments and the problem has not been resolved.

A lifesaver for a blind students.
If you are a blind or visually impaired student living in the US, you may know that some colleges and universities do not have sufficient resources to get your books. The office may either be tangled up in red tape for months, getting sufficient copyright permissions for you to read the book (after which time you will have either lost the class altogether or found someone to help you) or learned that the book is simply not available in an accessible format. This scanner saved my college career. I was able to bring my books to an office supply store and get the binding removed. Then, after fanning the pages to make sure none stuck together, I was able to feed the pages, 50 at a time, into the scanner. I was able to scan (and read) my books faster than most of the other students. The software bundled with the printer is a bit tricky, but it is accessible. The scanning detail can be set to ensure maximum OCR function. Great OCR depends on great input, which this scanner delivers. It is fast and reliable.

Great scanner, we scan thousands of documents weekly
This is our second Canon dr-25800C scanner. We had the first one for 2 1/2 years and it was a workhorse. A piece broke off that we couldn't fix and so we just bought a new one.We LOVE it. We use it to scan THOUSANDS of documents each week and it really is a workhorse. Great scans, easy to use, and worth every penny. We convert everything to PDF for archive storage. Only problem is you need to buy rollers (the little rubber pickers) every so often and they are not cheap, but when you do as much scanning as we do that is understandable maintenance. We did research a couple of different ones before buying the second one, but nothign could touch this. Highly recommended.Scans all kinds of different sizes and paper types.
